Re: questions about a 67 c-30

yeah my wrecker here has glass packs that stops right after the cab and have 4 inch turn downs that points to the ground right up from the dual wheels this 67 had a 350 4 bolt main in it and has a slight mild cam and headers so it already sounds pretty . and im like you i been thinking about going with stacks on this truck as well . so if you wouldnt mind if i may ask if u could send me a link of info on the stacks you found . cause i think at the end of this restore im going to go with a set of stacks too . i think it be a classy touch this 67 holmes 440 is going to be white and blue and im painting the unit and sling bars and the dollys farmall oil base red and i got a set of brand new ernest holmes mudlfaps for it at the end and i have a reese hitch in going to weld on it . and the cab lights and park light im leaving original but on the bed side marker lights and the taillight and reverse lights on the back of the bed im installing l e d lights and i got a old stlye stand up bug sheild i put on the hood and i even had a set of the stainless tractor trailer fender guide lights im going to put on the front bumper ends so when i geet done with this thing it will be one fancy classy 47 year old holmes wrecker .

Re: questions about a 67 c-30

That all sounds good. Mine had the cab swapped years go,so no cab markers. I have the teardrop chrome style like what a '68 or earlier would have. I have the round plastic, too, but thinking the earlier ones will dress it up a touch. I dream up different color schemes all the time. I've considered oil companies, like Sinclair,or dream up a garage name, like Ol' 40 Garage, for US40 using the shield design. Who knows? The interior's red and the boom/inside bed and push bumper/grille guard would be red too no matter what other color(s) I might do.

These aren't the ones I talked about,but maybe you'd like them w/shields:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.dmg&cad=rja

These are the ones I found. Was thinking about these cuz they're cheaper, don't care about shields too bad,and kinda wanted to just have the same size as what my exhaust is...more like they would do back then:
http://www.belarusagsupply.com/Exhau...cks_c_233.html

I don't know,The Wesdon 3" are pretty nice with shields AND,they come with those clamps. Mine has the holes w/three bolt holes already.

That hitch will add to the truck's usefulness a lot.

Re: questions about a 67 c-30

yeah i had it laying around my garage tripping over it so i was like ok the back of the wrecker bed is 1/4 inch steel and then have a plate welded uner it that inch thick steel so i was like ok bolt and weld the reese to it so i know there no way it will break off it have to probolly bring the whole wrecker bed off with it to pull away from 1 inch thick steel lol . i swaer this wrecker restoration is kicking my butt lots of work in this thing . but i been restoring vehicles sence i was 13 when i was 14 i have my first 17,000 show car i took to shows i built from ground uo and i have baught and fixed and sold and etc except fot the 14 i still have that are my projects and im keeping these and when i get them done im retiring of automotive restorations lol

Re: questions about a 67 c-30

I'm not into having a whole lot of vehicles. I'd be happy with a GM truck from each body style in 1/2,3/4t,& 1t,a Suburban or Panel or two,a 70-72 Jimmy, and a few larger trucks from various years. If I had those then I guess I'd look for a special car or two-three-four...

Seriously,it was the wife I had leaving me (she never really complained about my vehicles) that caused me to reduce my heard down to the five in my driveway. That and building going down the tubes put a hurtin' on me. But,I'm surviving. That's one thing I know for sure.

Re: questions about a 67 c-30

Hang in there! I love the idea of building an actual working class truck. This wrecker is a great change of pace to what I usually see cruising the streets. Thanks for sharing the process with all of us.

Re: questions about a 67 c-30

yeah i have a few people when i tell them im resoreing a antique wrecker and there like we have never heard of that i said well it aint no differnt then just restoring a old truck . which the back end being what it is is a little challenging when i work on the cab to the front its just another truck in other words . but i think thins will be my first and last wrecker restoration. alot of welding and etc getting the bed bolted and welded back on and the unit bolted welded to the bed floor then underneath attaching the unit back to the frame with the holmes purches as i call them . but its starting to look like a wrecker again ...

Re: questions about a 67 c-30

People used to say the same thing to me about restoring pickups before all the car guys caught on . A truck's a truck. There's nothing in the book that says it has to be a pickup. Check out the American Truck Historical Society and the Antique Truck Club of America. They are all about trucks and very few are pickups. Heck, there's antique construction equipment clubs. Those guys collect and restore Georgia Buggies!
