If need be. Chip in for a bus ticket to Hollywood or San Francisco. He'd fit right in with the rest of the weirdos.
Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Hah! This is Montana, not California

Outside any incorporated area, you can live in anything however you want.

And the sheriff deputies didn't do a damn thing about him stopping me on the road and threatening to kill me, you think they care about trespassing???

It's always a "civil matter" and they don't do anything right up until somebody gets shot. Which happens every now and then.

The new fellows have a track-steer over there right now using it to build fence. I'm sure they will get rid of his shack if he doesn't leave pretty soon. He doesn't need a damn bus ticket - he just sold a quarter section so he should have around $200K in his pocket if he hasn't spent it all on drink and drugs in the last couple months. He's got a big Ford pickup and a cabover camper and a tandem cargo trailer. All he needs to do is get his stuff loaded up and buy some gas.

And apparently not much different some other places:

Re: New Neighbors

We get squatters here too. My friend had some in his rental house. It took him six months to get them out and they trashed the place.

And he is a cop.

We had a terrible time getting the woman that we bought this place from to leave. Then she did a lot a damage to the house and left it filthy. Me trying to be nice allowed her 30 days to vacate because she was this "poor single mother" - no wonder why he left her

That's why I didn't want to buy the quarter section across the road even if we got a realtor to approach and negotiate a contract. That, and if the couple behind us ever decide to sell we want to buy their place to get rid of the easement through our land. Last time around we didn't have the money.

Oh - and about ten years ago there was some people broke into a bank repo house a few miles away, and started a big MJ grow operation on the land. No one would have ever known except they got wasted one night and started hallucinating that a bunch of guys were shooting at them and trying to break in. We heard the whole thing over the VFD radio when everyone thought it was real. The dispatch lady was actually in tears over the radio. That taught me that the sheriffs won't rush in to save anybody but instead will stage some distance away until they get enough backup to feel like responding. Next day they had the DEA out there investigating.

Re: New Neighbors

I know a guy. He has some Samoan friends. He paid them to go stay in one of his rental units that the non-paying tenants wouldn't vacate. 5 of them, all over 6 feet tall. They ate the "renter's" food, slept on their couches and beds, etc., saying that they were the new renters. The mooches were out in two days.

I don't know how "persuasive" the Amish folks tend to be, but if it comes down to it I'm sure a bunch of us neighbors would be willing to go "help him load up his stuff"

If there are enough torches and pitchforks, he'll leave!
