Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

Thanks guys! Well I got the day off and by 8AM I already ordered the entire audio system, I need the speakers ASAP to start building the lower door speaker panel pods.

Headunit - Kenwood Excelon KDC-X995
5-Channel Amp - JL Audio HD 900/5 (100x4 + 500x1)
Front Speakers - Polk MM6501 6 3/4" Components
Rear Speakers - Polk MM651 6 3/4" Coaxials
Subwoofer - JL Audio W13TW53 Shallow
Wiring - All Stinger HPM Interconnects, Power Wire, & Speaker Wire

Once all the body work is done, the under coating will be done with Second Skin under coating...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

That looks awesome! I will probably use the same carpet and trim paint in my 76. My mismatched dodge front seat and ford rear tan seats will have to work for me for now. What are your plans for your old dash pad?

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

The dash pad has 3 cracks on it And the center speaker grille has chunks missing. I wasn't planning on doing anything with it unless someone wants it. I just disassembled the aluminum trim and the A/C ducts and scrubbed them all clean and they are in better shape than I thought. I'll likely throw up a FS thread for them unless someone here wants them.

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

Thanks guys! I got the headliner out today as well and pretty much have all the interior trim (except kick panels and door panels) all painted and ready for when the headliner is done early next week! It's moving along! Some of the audio equipment started showing up already so I need to get to building the speaker panels for the lower half of the doors ASAP!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

This will be sweet! I am curious how bad it is going to be for me to put the newer door panels on my 76 rear doors. I don't think real hard, but with my luck, who knows.

You could just find some 81+ doors from a junkyard for dirt cheap and problem solved!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

LOTS!!!

Got the Dynamat done on the ceiling as well as the headliner fjnushed and the sun visits re-wrapped! The seats are getting all the custom upholstery done right now! All that will be left is to finish the stereo system and the door panels finished!

I also got the Kenwood Excelon headunit installed and the iPhone direct USB input mounted into the factory cigarette lighter location, I haven't decided of I am completely happy with it yet and might change it yet still!

The rear seat will be done Monday...here is the pattern...Don't mind the coloring, the fluorescent lighting screwed with it a bit!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

Also, the new SRW rear axle is over in Auburn at WFO Concepts being gone through and getting an Eaton LS installed. They are also ordering the PSC 2WD steering box and prepping the crossover steering system for me with manually adjustable kingpin caps. We are getting ready to order leaf springs as well...

I have a lot of the stereo system work to get moving on as well, build the sub box, the door speaker panels are in progress and the dual battery with 200amp isolator is installed and done, amp power wire and RCAs are done as well...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

Did you just glue the dynamat on and where did you get your headliner at?

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

The Dynamat sticks to the cab metal on it's own...It's a dense tar/rubber sound deadening material.

The headliner is the stock one, just fully restored.

Really great build! Do you have any pics of the truck with the new lift/wheels/tires on it?

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

I haven't done the lift or anything yet. I am starting to procure parts now, but as I am focused on the interior first, I have another few weeks before we start the suspension & steering.

Gotcha. I saw the parts listed in your signature and got confused. Fantastic build! Can't wait to see the rest.

No problem! You're building what I would like to build and I'm excited to see the exterior. I'm sure you are too!

I used dyna mat on my floorboard and it stuck but still slid around did not think it would have enough to stuck on hte ceiling with out falling and mine is missing the entire headliner. I have the trim just no liner.

You must have done it wrong or not cleaned and prepped the surface at all because Dynamat is sticky as hell!

Great build thread. I can't wait to see the lift and wheels and exterior when it is finished. I also can't wait to see it on the street in Reno if I get the chance. Great work!
