I was hooked on these trucks since 1982 when I drove my budys fathers 1968 Custum GMC 396 automatic dana 60 rear with a power lock diff what a ride more fun then we will we can ever tell!!

Nah mate. pre-73 C10's were never released here. There are a few here but they're all left hand drive. The few right-hand drive's were converted. Mine may very well be the only factory RHD 67-72 C10 in the country.

Small update. Wrongside was removed from the storage facility yesterday so I could get it home and remove the suspension, brakes and glass - ready for the media blasters. From there the frame will go directly to get powder-coated, whilst the cab will go to the body-shop.

Hope to have everything off by the end of next weekend.


Some better images now it's outside in the light.

Plenty of work needed.

Having noticed the work needed on this truck, I decided to remove as much as necessary before blasting, so I can eradicate as much rust as possible.

The inner cowl needs replacing, and the cab needs work where the firewall meets the top, so removing the inner cowl before blasting seems like a wise move.

Started drilling out spot welds today. Still got a long way to go, but I'll get there.

Finally ready for the blasters. Gets picked up this afternoon.

Spent the past week removing the inner cowl, front and rear suspension. All that's left is to remove the cab once at the blasters.

Cab is in sad shape. Wish I could find a donor cab locally. This is going to cost a motza to fabricate and repair.

I appreciate the attraction of using a 'original, genuine, etc' cab.
I too, understand sourcing and freight issues, I live on a little island to your right.
Before you get any further down the track, have you actually gone through an honest pricing exercise on bringing down a new cab? Rust free will save you money in the long term....guaranteed! I appreciate you can do anything/rebuild anything. With money.
I bought a new cab down, converted it (from scratch) to RHD, and did rust in the inner/outer rockers, cab corners, cab supports etc. Big job. Nothing compared to what you have ahead. Seriously, and not being a downer, before you send that cab to the sand blasters price shipping one in. You could take the RHD firewall panels and put them on a new cab. Dollars ahead. I know I'm not telling you anything that you don't know, but all those cab pictures tell a pretty sad story.
The guys/vendors on this board are great. I have bought/shipped almost an entire replacement truck down here, all in bits!! I am sure you could sort something. Just decisions to be made, part of the process of rebuilding an old truck.

I found your build today, and just went through it all. Looks like you've got a lot of work ahead of you. Sounds like you have a good plan of attack and are well on your way to having a great truck in the end. I'll be following along. I'd love to see a finished RHD.

One thing to keep in mind is that even if you imported a donor cab you probably should still proceed with rocker removal and replacement. so not all purchases would be for nothing.

Indeed. Also part of the reason I've decided against a donor cab. I'd still want to do that procedure to get a peak behind the curtains. Eliminate, as much as one can, rust returning from the inside out - which still contributes time & money to the end build. New floor and outer rockers aren't that much of an extra, especially when it comes to piece of mind.

Unless I found a cab in as new condition - for which I'd pay a premium for - I'd still want to blast and repair everywhere needed. With the sheetmetal available on the aftermarket, if I can get a hold of some non-reproduced tricky areas from someone cutting up a cab: the kick panel vents, etc - then the fabrication needed, whilst not easy, will be limited.

That's my theory anyway. We'll see how it goes

Bit of progress recently. Cab & chassis have been blasted, and the chassis has been repaired and painted.

This thing was pitted to the sh*thouse, so the painter recommended a polyester fill primer called All-U-Need to help fill the pits, as apposed to the usual filling & blocking routine. He recommended this mainly because the usual route would have taken twice as long = more money.

Since the inside of the chassis wasn't a priority, he covered that with a rhino-liner type material to seal everything up.

All in all. Pretty happy. Thing looks like a completely different chassis

Work on the cab starts in 2 weeks.
