Nice looking truck. I always loved these sports. You don't see too many of them running around anymore.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
so would this be considered a "sport" package? the rpo codes are all worn off in the glove box. it says 4x4 with sierra on top of it on the doors.factory fender flares, smooth painted front and rear bumper,305 auto.doesnt have any trim badges like st, slt, ect. can i find out what the factory rpo's are the vin number?

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
thanks for the link.its showing it to have the z71 package along with the sport package with 373 gears. does that automaticly make it a posi with that package? it doesnt bring up the G80 code.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
I took note of these trucks when they first hit the streets, and decided to take a plain-jane and dress it up after them. I really wanted an extended cab, and managed to find a 93 Silverado with a G80 3.73 and a clean interior.
I traded the 40/60 seat for Z-71 buckets/console, sanded off the infamously flaky factory white paint and reshot it white. I Picked up the SS trim +2 extra door pieces for the x-cab, door and grille badges, and a 94 Tahoe Sport grille. I managed to find a set of the black SS hubcaps (already had the wheels) and a source for the 92 SS cluster. I liked how it was going and decided to go the extra mile and do what Chevy should have done, and put an L98 with TPI in it. It would have been a dream - ZZ4 Cam, ~10:1 KB slugs, balanced rotating assembly, 2.02/1.60's...*sigh*...but then came the nightmare of the TBI>TPI swap. Never again. It's five hours to the closest person to burn a chip...harness woes..."needs different injectors". By the time all was said and done, I'd pretty much lost the drive (pardon the pun) to continue with the project. I sacrificed the tire-blistering capacity for a stock chip and tried to be satisfied with the fact that it was "peppy." The pic is post-spindles, pre-shackle Now I have the bug again, and I want to finish it. I'll be taking it to Fuel Injection Specialties in San Antonio, since they can fine-tune it on the chassis dyno and that should put the tiger back in the tank. I still need the foglight harness, the lights, and air dam, as well as the rear bumper trim and the paintable bumpers. The bumpers are easy but I'm not sure if I can still get the trim from the dealer. My guess is no. Also, I can't seem to find the decals anymore (eventually I'll want to repaint it), and I'm reluctant to use something cut by the "local decal shop," even if it's a dead ringer. Things like sunfade worry me about aftermarket, and the factory decal backing papers are cut with reference points to align and position the decals properly. Anyone happen to have a source for really good repro stuff, or happen to know of a site that might have a listing for the GM part numbers for that type of thing? |

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
I tried to retain a stock look. It's Flowmaster/ceramic headers, no cat, but had them run the pipes out just like stock, including the angle cut on the outlet. I'm getting old enough now that I might put the cat back on it just because I don't like it as loud as it is.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
i had a 91 chev sport. had a 350 in it and power everything. it had a color matched grill and a sport decal on rear fenders. The SS package had ground effects on them and had a 350 and was decaled 350SS. then there was also a 454SS package no ground effects. Not sure what the rpo codes were but hope this clears it up a little.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
I own a 1993 Indy Pace Truck. Black w/white lower trim and lots of Indy decals. Information is hard to find on this truck. So far I know they came without a tach dash and every option but a sliding back glass. They were made in longbed and shortbed , longbeds sold in Canada only. There were 1,543 produced, every chevy dealer originallyhad the opton to order one. GM soon found that the decals were cost prohibitive to install and sold them in a box as a do it yourself kit. My truck is in very good shape , only one decal is bad. If anyone has any more info , or knows that some of my info is wrong. Please let me know.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
Thanks John. the Sports are actually a fairly rare truck. Along with the 454SS. Not sure on exact sumbers made, but if you were able to get your hands on a canadian built Sport truck you had something in your hands worth Keeping. I couldnt keep mine because when my Insurance Renewed it was 20 years old and i was no longer able to insure it. So i want a 92.
I sold it well... traded mine for a 4000$ paint and body job... including a new cowl hood and shaved gate on my soon to be show truck. So i think i came out pretty good. I had it apraised at 5600$ But the motor was junk in it. (Burned a Shet ton of oil) 5L in 4 days.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
You could look into insurance with Hagerty, or someone like that. However it may be too new for them. Kind of a catch 22.
The trucks are pretty rare here too. You actually see more 454SS's then the Sports. I haven't seen a Sport in quite some time. Last edited by JohnC; 05-30-2010 at 05:05 PM. |

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
There is now 2 sports in my town, A white one and my old black one. And hopefully soon to be red one.. The white one is in horrible shape, and they just redid my old black one. Looks mint!! Ill get pictures. Im realy hoping ill get this Red one. Thing is in 92 they changed the SPORT decal to a stupid looking Italic Diagional Sport on the bedside without the bowtie... That will have to change because i like the old decal. goodthing LMC offers them.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions
Insurance companies and revenue offices.....you gotta love 'em.
My son-in-law moved down from Rhode Island. His truck was a '98 Dodge Ram. When he transferred the registration, he was asked for the title. It was still in R.I., but he said the the department in R.I., would't issue a title on anything more than 10 years old. So, I'm guessing that the iron oxide worms are the reason for that and why your insurance company wouldn't renew your policy. It is as if they have no faith in our automotive industry and their ability to build something that will last.
