Re: Bartmans AD-S10 Chassis Swap

you did a great summary video. I'm sure it cleared alot of things up for some newbs. Def some things that could be added, like making sure bed is level, running boards level, front sheet metal leveling and the effects on the hood latching it will have etc, the list can go on. But as far as the basic mounts, how they are made, look and line up, you did a great job. People shouldn't need a play by play on everything all the time, its good to make them exercise their brain a bit and do some things for themselves. You simplified it well.

Re: Bartmans AD-S10 Chassis Swap

Thanks 99tolife. You are right. This was just a simple over view and I know there will be a lot of tweaking to get it right. As a matter of fact When I get the sheet metal ready to go on I will probably be the one scratching my head and asking questions since this is my first Build.

Re: Bartmans AD-S10 Chassis Swap

You'll be fine, there are alot of factors that come up and are gonna be different from others builds. Most troublesome area is the radiator for people. also front sheet metal alignment and what to do with the inner fenders. As long as you got your fenders in the wheelwells, your most of the way there. Another issue is how high or what mounts people use for their engine, that effects obviously some trans and floor tunneling and pinion angle adjustments. The 4" total off frame is the most common number, seen a guy bagged being 6.5" off frame so there are def variable still out there. I like the variables because it doesn't make it all cookie cutter and everyone would have zero problems doing a swap and have all the same specs.

Re: Bartmans AD-S10 Chassis Swap

Sorry no progress to report. Finally getting back to normal after my surgery, but still recovering financially from 3 months of diminished income during the surgery.
In my down time I've been learning to use Gimp, which is a free version of a Photoshop program. Here are a few samples of what I've done in the last few day.

Re: Bartmans AD-S10 Chassis Swap

Sorry for the previous post with links instead of images. Hope this is better.

Sorry no progress to report. Finally getting back to normal after my surgery, but still recovering financially from 3 months of diminished income during the surgery.
In my down time I've been learning to use Gimp, which is a free version of a Photoshop program. Here are a few samples of what I've done in the last few days.

Some new shoes and port 1955 Buick portholes in the sides of the hood. I had a 54 Buick a long time ago and I love the portholes. Seriously thinking about doing this on the sides or top of the hood. But not the stupid plastic ones you can get at Auto Moan.

Some Ideas I had on door art.

YouTube has become kind of a social media for me during recovery from surgery. I've found a lot of people there doing projects like our and posting videos of the progress. Most of them have channel stickers that they trade around. Here is an example of one I designed but have not had them printed up yet.

If posting this last pic or mentioning you tube in this context violates any guidelines I apologize in advance and feel free to remove this post. I'm not selling any thing so thought this would be appropriate in this context. Thanks

Re: Bartmans AD-S10 Chassis Swap

Last weekend I did a little more on my radiator support. I bought a 65 mustang radiator (I think a 67 may have been a better choice as it is a couple of inches wider) I'm going to have to kick it out at the bottom a couple inches so I still need to make some brackets. I was out of gas for the welder.

Hey

Thanks for this video !

Question : If the radiator support is 4" from the pass side rail - this means the support is not perfectly centered correct ?, . . mine is shifted to left with a quick mock up with the fenders and the hood

Seems like there is a bigger gap on the driver side than the pass

Re: Bartmans AD-S10 Chassis Swap

Thanks for the Video Bartman. So if I understand correctly, all of the front end sheet metal hangs onto the radiator support correct? Does that mean that it is all reliant on those two bolts at the bottom to hold it on, or is there another anchoring point? It would seem to me that you do not want that support to move, and that the rubber washers might be better placed between the radiator and the support as opposed to being between the support and the frame.

Yes everything sits on and is supported by the radiator core support. But I Plan to also put some kind of L bracket on each inner fender and attach them to the actual frame rails. The weight will then be distributed across 4 anchor points. The rubber washers are just a little buffer for vibration etc. The Radiator will actually be attached via the Brackets running up the sides or the radiator. I still need to make some brackets to get the radiator joined to the support.

Re: Bartmans AD-S10 Chassis Swap

yeah bartman nailed it. the innner fenders hold alot of the weight, on the s10s they need cut to fit because of the control arms, so you loose alot of mounting space as opposed to the stock frame. the rad support bolts to the inner fenders and then to the xmember of your making, so that really stiffens things up. I also ran a piece of angle or flatstock, cant remember, from the bottom or my grill back to the rad xmember, its just a little extra support. I didn't run the radiator splash apron, I dont think a lot of people even run those.

Also the rods that run from the center part of the fire wall to the inner fenders that are primarily for squaring up the sheet metal, but they will also have a hand in carrying some wait and preventing a tendency to droop.
