I found this on another site. Thought you guys might enjoy it....

The owner says-
I went "truck hunting" in morgan minnesota with a couple friends and we picked up a green '51 Ford F-6 Dually with a hydraulic dump bed for FREE. You read that right, free. Hadn't been on the roads since 1986 but all the tires still held air, I had the engine running in a week and the only things actually wrong with the truck were a broken drivers side window and some wiring issues. Truck is abso-****in-lutely rust free. And a clear title.

gotcha now, I thought that was the pic the guy posted of his "find" while truck hunting.
I hope it didn't get gas from eating the ford!

Got a great bed for my '67!!

I bought a very decent '69 C-10 yesterday to use for my dually project. This bed has no rust, no major dents or dings and is very nice.I will have to fill the marker light holes, but that's not a big deal. Actually the whole truck very solid. There is a scratch dent in the bottom of the passenger door, but is otherwise very straight. I am going to keep this cab, doors, and front clip for a SWB chassis. Its got a running 307 with a 3 speed.

Its almost the same color!!

Here's some pics of the truck...

hey 67_c-30 that is a great find.....the truck looks to be in pretty good shape! so the plans are to tub the bed or do fender ext. on the bed ? sorta like the green one you posted in a set of earlier pictures. it has the black dually fenders on it or the red one as well .....also did you say you were going to turn the rest of the truck into a shorty!..... sounds like you have some rather big plans....it will be alot of work but it will be cool when done! keep us posted!

I am going with am '81 14 bolt rearend which will is wider than the original Eaton rearend, and it will require fender extensions. I am going to shorten the wheelbase. It will look a lot like the white one below, except it will be a small window cab, and '67 front clip. It is going to be black on black w/ a chrome grille, headlight bezels, vent windows, windshield trim, hood trim, and tailgate trim. It will basically look like a cross between the white and black truck below. It will have the fender extensions but will basically look like the black truck. I want it to look a factory dually if they had built them in '67. I am not going to go with roll pans and I am not shaving anything door handles or anything. It is going to a lot of work, but it will definitely be well worth it if it looks half as good as I'm visualizing it.

Here's another easy way to visualize the look I want. Imagine Joesjunk's black C-30 below with the painted part of grille black instead of grey, no side markers, and with a bed like the white one, and different rims.

What are some your thoughts on this look? I'm pretty much decided on how its going to be, but I would like from you guys. Thanks!!

Sounds like you do have big plans!! I would like to figure out the best way to make a dually bed look factory. I would like to build a stock 133"wb dually with a correct looking longhorn bed. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck.

Joe,

Going with a Lornhorn bed was my initial plan, but I only know of one anywhere near me, and its trashed. I had pretty much decided a few months back that I would shorten the frame to 127" and use a std 8' bed, and when I found the '69 C-10 in the posts above this, it made up my mind for me. Its rare to find a bed around here that solid and straight. These trucks are normally pretty used up, especially the LWB ones. What do you have in mind to make the fender extensions look factory?? The bed on the truck below looks more authentic than any of the others I have seen. I don't know if its the color or what, but the wheel offset looks good, and it all flows. That is the look I'm going to try to achieve. What do you think??

The truck above is virtually what mine is going to look like in a couple of months I hope. Almost there now, except for the box being completed.

67_c-30 i don't see how you could miss with the look you are going after. all these examples are great trucks. the only thing i would do different would be to keep the side markers. i like the look on joes black one, plus just the safety aspect as well. this is just an opinion though. it should be a nice truck!the only thing else i can say is man you better get started! 68gmcdually your truck looks to be coming along nicely as well. i hope to see both as a post here this summer. keep up the great work guys!

7gmc2,

Well, the reason I'm not going with the side markers is I'm keeping eveything like a '67 came. I would actually have to add them to my '67 fenders or get a set of '68 fenders. And the fact that they look cleaner without them to me, but its like you, its different opinions.

68gmcdually,

Wow! Nice project you got going there. I prefer to have the look of reg cab on my truck, but the extended and 4 door cabs are different, and they catch your attention. What kind of bed and what color are planning to go with?? Also, what engine/drivetrain are going to run?? I can't wait to see it when your finished. Keep us posted!

The truck is going inferno red pearl metallic, a very nice rich red. The drivetrain is going to be a 1992 3500 chassis, sporting a 5.7l with a 5 speed (overdirve) manual transmission. I removed the original dual rear end and put one in out of a cube van to get a better ratio and to widen it out a bit as the original rear end was very narrow.

I kinda like the regular cab as well, but as you can tell from my signature I am getting married in the spring and hopefully with luck will have couple of kids coming to the shows and cruises with me, hence the need for a back seat. Some of my best memories from my childhood was from the back seat of my dad's custom built extended ramp truck, we toured all of the eastern sea board in that rig, picking up classic cars for our business.

I see that you are from Alabama.

We broke down in Alabama one year in my dad's hauler. There was a pretty big flood and the truck died out from the water splashing up on the ignition. That was fun, fully loaded with two cars and my mom dad, brother # 2 and me, waiting for the stupid truck to dry out. Oh the memories, that it the type of stuff I want my kids to remember.

BTW: in the background of my second picture above is my dads new hauler, a '52 IHC super-stretch cab over mounted on a low pro IHC chassis with a DT466 power plant with a 5 speed tranny coupled to a 3 speed aux. My truck and his truck are going to be close in colour. I hope to hit some of the larger truck shows "down south" (hey from Canada everything is south to us) with mine on the back and his doing the hauling with our friends '60 on the wagon.

Also that is his first load on the truck a '57 chev belair, just being stored while the truck is being finished.

Very cool. I was going to put my '67 on the '81 chassis that front suspension and rearend is coming from, but either way I went I was going to have to shorten the frame to achieve the WB I needed. I figured since the cab mounts were all there that it would ultimately be easier to leave my it on the '67 frame and shorten it 6 inches. I going with 6.2 diesel (probably gonna be turbocharged), the original SM420 4 speed, and a 3.42 geared 14 bolt out of the '81. I had an '85 C-30 years ago with the 6.2L/SM465/3.73 gears and I always remembered how good that truck ran, and the awesome mileage it got. It had a 10ft flatbed and got around 20 MPG. It would run 75-80 fine out on the highway, and low first gear of the 4 speed was great when pulling heavy loads. . The 6.2L runs much better with a manual transmission. Not a lot of people know that b/c most of them came autos.

I can relate to having fond memories of an old ramp truck. My dad had one that he used to haul his dirt cars to the races in the late 70's and early 80's. It was a '71 C-30, and looked a lot like mine (below). I actually thought when I first found my truck that it might be the same one, but after a closer look I found it wasn't. Several of the guys I deal with razz my a little bit because they all have rollbacks, but I love my old truck. I'd like to build a 67-72 Rollback eventually. I thought I might do you did and find a newer rollback that may have a rusty body or even a little collision damage, and replace the cab with an older one.

Wow! Great looking '67. I have a set of those mirrors that I took off of an 84 C-20. They look pretty good on there. I may use them on my car hauler. Sometimes if I have something pretty wide on the back of the truck, while I'm pulling the trailor, I can't well with the mirrors I have. As far as they swing out, they might do the trick. Also, are those cab lights original? Are they listed on the glove box tag, or are they aftermarket? Thanks!

I really like the look of the green and white one. There is a local truck that has the dually fenders from a 88-98 truck moulded to the 72 bed and it looks real good. I am not to sure what way i would go????

Joe,

The 88-98 fenders look ok to me, but I don't like that wheelwells are so differently shaped. There are some good looking trucks like that on the thread, but for mine I want to go with the modified stepside fenders.
I found a few more 1 tons (below). That is a really clean motorhome. Here are more pics of it: http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...25&mode=invite

The wrecker is for sale on Ebay. Those 19.5" wheels look pretty tough on there. Looks like an earlier model 3500HD. C-30HD I guess! Here's the link to auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6173

Also, are those cab lights original? Are they listed on the glove box tag, or are they aftermarket? Thanks!
Thanks,

Don't get too many compliments on it. Don't think it is flashy enough for alot of the folks on here but it doesn't matter to me. it gets driven and WORKED almost every day. The Cab lights are the teardrop style which are correct for the 67 (Saw your other post) but they are not factory installed.

Thanks also for the Compliment 7GMC2. Thanks also for starting this thread. The truck has those sideboards for a reason and it does feel right at home hauling stonedust, crushed stone, processed, flagstone, riprap, you name it. I will try to remember to take some pics this year. I just don't really think to jump out at the gravel pit and take snapshots while I am working 80 hours a week during the season. I did have a few cords of ash hickory and oak in it with my JD 855 in tow a couple months back. She gets a little respite during the winter and I take care of a few new rust spots every year. It is a never ending battle up here.

I know you mean about the lack of compliments. Not everybody gets the 1 ton thing. My wife asked me a few weeks after I got my '67 when I was going to take it to yard and start parting it. I said, "I'm not, I'm keeping it." She give me one those looks and simply said, "Why?"

Every now and then and get a compliment on my '69 Car Hauler, but I usually get "I figgered you'da got a rollback by now!" Most of the guys I deal with around here have Rollbacks, and I've seen popped rollers, hydraulic pumps and cylinders fail and/or pour hyd. oil, and I've seen worn out beds that bounce around when they hit bumps. I've also seen aluminum body rollbacks with the bed ripped to shreds and the catches on the front crunched because they brought the bed all the way to cab without having it all the way down. I've had to put a rearend and gas in mine, so who really has the inferior truck? Don't get me wrong, I know Rollbacks have a lot of advantages, but even when I buy or build one, I am going to keep this truck around to do all the nasty stuff like pulling junk cars w/ no wheels or spindles and using to push stuff out of the way with the rear "bumper". This truck has 4" channel iron extending off of the frame going to a 4" piece of 1/2" wall tubing with a 3/16" plate deck. The bed is built like a tank! Do that with a Rollback!!
