Nice bracket for the front. I've thought about doing the dually flat bed to mine but I only have a half ton frame and I would have to have a one ton to be happy with it. Grate progress.

Today's progress:





THE CAB IS BACK ON THE FRAME!!!

This makes me very happy, they have been apart for a long long time now.

I made a rig on my cherry picker this morning, worked amazingly well for pulling the cab.

It can pivot 360* and it picks the cab up with ease.





I am waiting on my cab mount kit that I ordered from ORD to show up so I can get the cab bolted down, and I need the rear spring pivot bushings that I ordered from ORD as well, when I get those I will be able to get the frame welded up and boxed, then I can start working on getting the Cummins mounted.

I loaded the Dana 60 up on my wrecker, and I am going to take it over to a shop here in town that makes U bolts and get a new set made.




When I get back from doing that and getting a little lunch I am going to finish welding the front cross member, and I am going to cut out the old front cross member so as that I dont have to clearence it for the cummins, and I am going to remove the 2wd front cross member and all the stuff that goes with it.

Then I will bolt the 4wd steering box on the frame, install the leafs and the Dana 60 and see how it all looks.

Tomorrow myself and a friend of mine are going out to get the cab and front clip, then we will be bringing them back here.

I ordered a new set of body mount bushings and bolts from ORD they will be here next week, Once I have those in hand I will be able to set the cab on the frame and get busy with getting the cross member to mount the Cummins built.

The goal is by the end of next week to have the engine set in the frame, and to be able to start making a list of what will be needed to get my NV4500 in there, as well as finish off the transmission to transfer case adapter I am working on.

I definately have plenty to do, but it is taking shape really fast.

Also tonight I need to make a rig for lifting my truck cab with the engine hoist so as that I do not damage it while moving it.

Just a small update, I did not get a lot done today, but what I did get done was important.

I found out the parts I ordered from ORD are all on back order, that kind of eats at me, but the good news is that they are going to over nite them to me if they show up on wendsday which means I will have them friday.

I also picked up a set of motor mounts for the cummins today, tomorrow I am going to start getting the engine cross member and mounts built. I am playing with different ideas on how to do it, but I think the final design is going to involve a removeable cross member that will allow me to drop the oil pan with ease should I ever need to.

Once the mounts are built and welded in, I will get to work getting the frame boxed and getting all of the unessasary holes filled, then I need to also cut the holes for the front axle shackle hangers, once this is done I will get them welded up, drop the engine in, and I will start working on getting the tranny in and hooked up.

Then it will be a matter of getting the radiator, intercooler, and boost pipes routed. Then all that will be left is to get it wired and plumbed up, rebuild the tranny as a 4x4, and get the driveshafts built, and it will be a truck that can move under its own power again.

I am going to hammer down as hard as I can and try to have it to where it will run by the end of may.

I am having a hard time deciding on what color I want to paint it, I am considering a dark royal blue, a metalic brown, and a copper color. We will see which one I wind up picking.

Also the more I look at the bed I am building for my friend, the more I like it, and I think I am going to build a similar one for my truck. I was thinking it would be kind of cool to have a 12v fridge in the box.

No no no, not metallic brown, brown with gold flake instead of the metallic flakes.

If I do the copper the frame and running gear will be black, I will do the grille in a charcol color, and the engine will be black with the valve covers painted red.

Well they will be painted red once I know the cummins is making in excess of 460 hp. That way I can have a true red top!

That is kind of what im thinkin.

Allthough I am still having a hard time deciding what bed to build.

With one I get a much larger fuel tank, the other more ability to carry cargo on the bed.

One of my old flat beds had custom built saddle tanks behind the tool boxes on the sides and a suburban tank in the rear. It made the side boxes kinda shallow but it was grate for long runs up to the farm. Just an idea.

I have thought about that, I can get a 22 gallon tank between the rear frame rails, and I can stuff another 20 gallon between the rails behind the cab, I dont want saddles because I like to carry a lot of tools.

I can carry eveyrthing id need to change an engine short of a cherry picker in the truck pretty much.

I want to get a set of tool box drawers and put them in one of the boxes too to keep my tools organized. That would be very nice.

I would go with that, I like the bed to be open so I can throw whatever I want on there. Drawers would be nice, I ended up putting a tool box inside another tool box on mine, it was a pain in the a$$.
I really dig your truck, have had thoughts of stripping my 84 and putting a 72 cab on it with a flat bed after seeing how well your is turning out.

You would be better off finding a C/30 and doing the swap, the 67-72 and 73-87/91 frames are very very different, and putting a 72 cab on the newere frame is doable, but extremly occuard.

There are lots of the C/30's still out there, you just have to find them.

I am really going back and forth on the bed, but at the moment I am thinking about how I will need the bed space, and how I can build a kennel for my dog that can ride back there so he can stay dry and clean on our longer outings instead of having to ride in the cab with me and my girlfriend.

Me the girl and the dog in the cab of the truck gets a bit cramped.

Also the Boss is going to be a tow vehicle, I have decided when I sell my business at the end of the summer I am going to get a late 80's/early 90's Airstream Excella 34' to serve as a temporary home for about a year.



If I do the copper paint theme on the truck, I think I will repaint the strips on the airstream to match like this.

wow i think you be taking wiiiiide corners for some time after that year long trip
be carefull not to wipe the second lane clear on the offramps that thing will hang its ass out quite a bit

but not with that overhang in the back , i dont think i could drive it in the netherlands to many bends in the road narrow streets and stuff like that
drive a small truck for a while and i had a couple of sweaty hands and squished butcheeks moments in amsterdam doing deliveries

Yes with the overhang in the back too. The picture above is a model, but I used to pull a trailer like that, it was a tripple axle 53' high cube, the axles were non sliders, the center of the axle set was 34' from the king pin.

I had no problem with it what so ever.
