Fighting with the Radio. Speaker is toast, and I don't believe the radio is any count, I hooked it up to another speaker and still no sound, fuse is good. Ill put the radio bacl in place until I can get the Retro sound replacement in the future.

Last but not least. My new Johnny Cash sticker. Pics of the driver side door, you guys think its fixable or easier to replace? And the mounts for the hitch, will be ground off later.

Anything is fixable, but I would replace that door.

Here is a fun sight, this is the gas that I drained from the tank, found a clear container to get a better look. Looks almost like diesel.

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20
Ill have a pic soon of my latest find, a rusted out hole on the top of the intake manifold. I can't believe we didn't notice it last night, she sounded so well. Only thing I can imagine is that revving the engine at high rpms last night finally helped the rust to give.

Any rust in it? I drained a gas tank from a rural fire truck and the gas was that color. Tank was very clean inside.

Check this out then, I couldn't believe it. Here's some more fun too, 2 broke push rods. This old girl made it home on a wing and a prayer. Can't imagine we didn't hear them making noise.

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20
Wow! That intake wouldn't be a vacuum leak. That's the heat cross over and would sound like an exhaust leak. Those push rods should of made run really bad.

She really wanted to be here!! More and more I find things and can't imagine how she was still roaring so healthily, Things like this are why I trust the reliability of an old 350!

I still have a lot to learn about motors and how they work, and well just working on cars in general. I know a lot of the basics. This old truck will be my first learning experience.

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20
Haven't been doing much. On the hunt for an intake, need to pick up gaskets and push rods when I get a little more cash. So for now here she is in her new home. My moms horse Athena gets a nice view of the old girl while she eating. And photo bombed by a baby goose.

So I haven't been doing much lately, I've been spending my time cleaning up a pasture. Going to get my permit soon, and got a lead on a dd while I work on this old girl (87-91 ford f150 300 I6 5 speed) possibly trading a horse for it.

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20
Geeze I wished this kid lived closer, I have a bunch of stuff I would give him ... box, better door, complete engine, etc etc. Gotta keep they young guys motivated so our hobby wont die off. I hope some of the more local guys can help him out. Its not always about getting the most money you can possibly milk out of your parts stashes.

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20
I agree CG, I help a lot of younger guys especially the last few years, has kept the interest growing in our area. Has been good to see the parts and some of my knowledge shared and making a difference.

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20
I agree, I've been trying to help thru pm's. His dad is knowledgeable too. I wish I had some parts to send him. He seems like a really nice kid that wants to learn.

Re: Newbie, Buying my first. 72 GMC K20
I think we are all relieved that they got it home 1st off, at least they can collect parts and get to it a bit at a time.

Shipping stuff from the West Coast to the East Coast adds up real quick. Good for you helping him with your knowledge via PM.
