Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Valves seemed to have some issues going on. It had been smoking now and then, and always had a little bit of a pop out of both exhausts at idle.

Engine is kind of a greasy mess.

Both engines sitting in the garage. I have to swap the intake and the P/S pump over to the new one before installing.

New engine in the truck tonight. Still a lot of work before it runs. Orange looks so much better.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Got the headers in between last night and tonight. Amazingly, they fit perfect with no issues, cleared the motor mounts and the crossmember. Couldn't believe it.

These are supposed to be the same as the ones I took out, and they look identical, but the old ones hit the passenger side motor mount and the PO had dented the header for clearance.

On the flip side-----these did not clear the z-bar the same as the old ones. So I'm in progress of re-designing the z-bar to fit better. As long as I can weld it, I can't be stopped!!!!! LOL

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Z bar fits and works now. Got the alternator and Ac compressor mounted, carb i son, radiator in.

Made 3 trips to Auto Zone before I got a set of belts that actually fit. New pulleys caused me to have to get slightly shorter belts, and I guessed wrong twice.

Spent a bunch of time fixing and cleaning up wiring. Put a lot of the wiring into black wire loom and routed and taped it. Looks a lot better and hides the rainbow of wire going everywhere. I have too much extra electrical stuff to hide it all.

Also found my newest fuse holders for the electric fans melted just like the last ones. Fuses weren't blown, but the holders looked like they had been torched. Rewired that and installed a car audio style fuse block with the big glass fuses. If this melts I give up.

I still have to get clamps for the lower radiator hose (forgot them all 3 trips today), fill with coolant, install trans and driveshaft, and wire the starter.

Looking good. While you've got the hood off, it'd be a good time to paint your hinges, as well as your brake booster/MC/bracket with that Rustoleum hammered spray paint you turned me on to. I just installed a brand new booster and MC, and apparently they just primer them, and they're subject to rust

I have to see if I can clean the hinges up enough to paint them. They probably need to be blasted.

The booster I already painted with Eastwood Brake Parts paint, its supposed to be resistant to brake fluid. I have a new master going in soon when I do the rear brakes, and I already painted that as well.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

New engine is alive! Got it fired up today. Broke the cam in, got most of the tuning set up. Few minor issues to address still, but so far I did it right.

crappy video's are here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=596848

Awesome!

I tied to view the videos, but yeah- the screen grab is poor quality, and I can't get them to play.

Brother, you need to quit spending money on that truck, and get yourself a good phone lol

It was my buddy's I phone. The videos look fine until I upload them to photobucket. Then one turns sideways and they both look bad.

Go treat yourself to the Galaxy Note 2 (or wait a month or so for the Galaxy Note 3). Bigger guys like us can pull off using such a large phone. Plus, we don't wear skinny jeans lol

The screen is large enough that you can look at service manuals, part schematics, etc. while you're under your truck too

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

I have a company supplied iPhone that I don't have to pay for, so I'm good to go. I also have a tablet I use in the garage for searching out info.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Got the valve cover oil leak fixed last night, and got my temp gauge working tonight. Still waiting for a replacement high torque starter so i can actually crank this thing over reliably. Regular old rebuild Gm starter just can't quite do the job.

Also added some bling under the hood.

Cool videos. Engine sounds great, and you guys are having way too much fun. I can practically see the little old Italian Jersey women baking lasagna, and hearing you roll by with no hood, wondering what all that "racket is" Lmao

That top cover above the grille support looks good

Thanks. Got that from GMC Paul's. It covers up the ugliest part of the engine bay.

I still have more wiring clean up to do in the engine bay to get it as clean looking as I can. The additional of the AC and electric fans added a whole lot of extra wire

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Got the high torque mini starter in tonight. Wow is that different. I took a quick video of it on a dead cold start. 2 pumps of the gas and then I cranked it with my remote trigger.

Re: Lattimer's 1970 C-10 build

Also added a 10 ohm resistor to the wire to the coolant sensor, now normal operating temp has the gauge reading in the middle of its range. Before it read hot when the engine was at 190.

Tomorrow I have to re-do a header gasket. Can't get the leak on #3 to stop.
