Every now and then and get a compliment on my '69 Car Hauler, but I usually get "I figgered you'da got a rollback by now!" Most of the guys I deal with around here have Rollbacks, and I've seen popped rollers, hydraulic pumps and cylinders fail and/or pour hyd. oil, and I've seen worn out beds that bounce around when they hit bumps. I've also seen aluminum body rollbacks with the bed ripped to shreds and the catches on the front crunched because they brought the bed all the way to cab without having it all the way down. I've had to put a rearend and gas in mine, so who really has the inferior truck? Don't get me wrong, I know Rollbacks have a lot of advantages, but even when I buy or build one, I am going to keep this truck around to do all the nasty stuff like pulling junk cars w/ no wheels or spindles and using to push stuff out of the way with the rear "bumper". This truck has 4" channel iron extending off of the frame going to a 4" piece of 1/2" wall tubing with a 3/16" plate deck. The bed is built like a tank! Do that with a Rollback!!
isn't it clear that some trucks get compliments by nature, and some get them by "being a truck". i think the 1-tons are the "being" kind. if they weren't very popular or respected then how else do you explain this thread? i know that there is alot of respect for them and their abilities. it just dosen't always get said. just looking at what they are able to do and "still do" is testament to that! i know that alot of these trucks on this forum are cooler, faster ,or maybe "show quality". that is fine. lets face it these trucks are just what they are, and what they are meant to be TRUCKS! and brutes at that! there in lies the beauty..........

I have to admit I just never will understand the whole $4000 paint job polished rims wash and wax three times a day mentality. Not saying I can't respect it because I feel like those guys take a hell of a lot better care of their rigs than I do. You are never going to catch me waxing a set of Budd wheels though. The reason I drive my rig is because I know it will go another 38 years if I want it to.

Basically sat from 4/99 to 9/02 after I had surgeries on shoulder and back, after an accident. Only driven then from 9/02-11/02. I've done too many things to list, but it's been off the road the past 2 years. Will probably put back on in a couple of weeks. Body work and interior to be done after it warms up. Have the original picture, for sale ad someplace. The "new" bed and tailgate are the ones I bought here off of gn4u2c. Since the pics, the rear bumper & hitch sit properly after I altered the brackets. Wiring & lights are all done. Headers & new 2.5" exhaust exiting at rear tires. Installed a 2" suspension in the rear.

did you buy the 2in lift for a 3/4ton or 1 ton? where do you get one and how much do they cost thanks.

Dan, I bought my kit on ebay that someone sold the truck before installing. It was made by AIM Industries. I thought I still had the paperwork for the product number but can't find it. I just measured the spring pad dimensions on the rear and stock square u-bolts. Then added 2" to the u-bolt length. Had the seller give me all measurements, which matched my setup. Didn't use tapered blocks since the springs sit on the rear. Had to trim u-bolts after install. I'm sure AIM could give measurements over the phone.

69 C-30 Car Hauler on Ebay

This looks like the long lost cousin to my '69 Car Hauler, except its got a 19' bed, instead of the 17' mine has. I wish I had that extra 2 feet. This would probably make somebody a good tow vehicle. The starting bid is $3500 w/ no reserve. You can't buy a good Rollback for double that price.

Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

James670X those have got to be some of the longest and heaviest looking trucks i have ever seen! can't see those things getting stuck too easy. i would guess that they are also pretty expensive to maintain and drive as well.......

7gmc2 none of those trucks are mine (I wish they were!), however I currently drive the truck pictured below and even it, although 100% stock is expensive to drive (takes over a c note to fill both tanks ).
Edit: My future plans for it are a 6" or 20" lift ($), buckstop front bumper, 12K or 15K winch, air or electronic lockers front and rear, 10ft. aluminum deck, Vortec heads, bump up the compression to 9 or 9.5:1, fully rollerized valvetrain, MPFI, headers, and dual exhuast (I'm hoping to make at least 300hp @ the rear wheels).

Any idea on the dry weight of that slide in camper. That is kinda what I want for my truck, either that or a 25' fifth wheel.

1967 Gmc C30

Here is my first C30, a 67 GMC with a 351 V6/4 speed.
Factory cab/chassis, then converted to motorhome by Open Road.
To keep the story short, I bought it and removed the camper (beyond repair).
Here are some pics of that:
Getting a tow to the yard:

Gotta love the big equipment!

New home for wayward hubcaps and small rodents:

Much lighter now!

That is about the end of that story, somehow Joesjunk talked me into buying C30 #2...

1972 Chevrolet C30

Here is C30 #2:
1972 C30 250 I6/4speed with original black paint. Pretty good body for an old work truck. 5.14 eaton rear and 18" split rims.

Leaving Joesjunk's house near KC,MO.

Arriving at my house near Rochester, MN.

Got some plans for this truck!
Bought a 1972 402/TH400 from Joesjunk.
Bought a longhorn bed from Kilomanjaro.
Going to do some motor swapping and bed mounting this spring.
Of course, last spring C30 #3 took my attention...

1968 C30 Open Road motorhome

Here is #3: a 1968 Chevrolet C30. Factory cab/chassis truck delivered to Open Road for motorhome conversion. 157" factory wb stretched to 180" or so. 28k original miles!! 327 V8/TH400 and 5.14 rear (now sporting a 4.10 detroit locker bought from Da-Burb).

I bought this unit on ebay in the spring of 2004. Drove all night to Michigan, and turned around the next morning and drove 400 miles back home. Top speed was about 54mph with the 5.14 rear, but a great trip and the rig performed flawlessly.
This one is slated for a couple of upgrades, but it will remain a motorhome! My wife and 2 sons love it, and we had a couple of good outings last year.
I dont have real good pics of this one, but here are a couple:
Me (the younger one), and the previous owner. An absolute pleasure to deal with, and quite sad to see this go. He made me promise to call him when I got home, as the rig had not made a trip that far in the 20+ years he owned it.

Here is one of its favorite things to do, stop at gas stations!

Guess that is about it for now, enjoying this thread fully!

Chris H - Thanks for the excellent pics!! I like the fact that you are going to keep the last a motorhome. I love seeing these trucks still in service. These trucks really do get addictive. I found a '68 GMC 3500 1 ton dump trauck this weekend. The body is not great, but the dump bed is nice, and the drivetrain is excellent. Its a got a 351 V6/SM420. I drove it, and it runs great. I am trying to decide if I want yet another project. I don't need it, but that's never stopped me before!

BTW, What kind of pickup are you going to make out the black one?
