Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Now it is time to start tearing it apart for paint.
Oh also, I shredded a brand new Delco alternator while breaking the cam in. plastic just started shooting out of the housing. I don't know what was up with that. |

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Got my headers put on today. I have an appointment to get exhaust put on it Thursday. I will get some pics of it then.
Also, The Sanderson BB8 headers are suppose to be a direct bolt on for our trucks with a BB. The driver side went on with no issues. Passenger side needed a little clearancing on the motor mount bracket and I had to trim a ear off of my turbo 400. No big deal but wanted to get the info out there. |

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Got the exhaust put on today. He did an awesome job! I am very happy with the way everything came out. Everything is inside the frame rails incase I ever decide to bag it and it is nice and neat.
Here is a pic of the guy that does my exhaust. It caught me funny him standing in my truck to drive it off the trailer. By claypool782 at 2011-09-01 This is the only shot I got while it was on the lift. By claypool782 at 2011-09-01 Here are a couple of shots of the engine with the headers on it. I have a 5" filter on it now but I am going to have to drop to a shorter one. This one barely hits my hood. By claypool782 at 2011-09-01 By claypool782 at 2011-09-01 |

Headers look good! I'm wishing I would've gone with the BB8's. Post a video so we can hear it with the new exhaust.

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Picked this up a couple of days ago. I am going to use the cab on my truck. I actually picked the whole thing up cheaper than it would have been to replace the cab corners, rockers, and floor pans mine needed. It is 100% rust free. It is an 86'. The inside was full of parts too. Got a good gauge bezel, a grill to sell and a set of stock hub caps. Not sure if they are worth anything or not.

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
I was going to get with you and see what your schedule looked like. I didn't figure we would want to be painting in the winter but I don't really know anything about it. I am ready to tear it apart now. I was going to try and get it tore down when I get home this time and maybe get it blasted the next time I am home after that. I figured that would give plenty of time before the COLD weather hit. What do you think?
My dad is building a roll around dolly for the cab to sit on. How high would be good? I was thinking the rockers about a foot off the ground. |

Re: baclay9's 83' SWB Build
Well, here is another CL score. Factory truck buckets out of a 78' 3/4 ton. I had to drive to Wichita, KS for them but since I am on a job in N. Oklahoma it wasn't too far. Best thing is I picked them up for $80. They have the brackets and all. The guy bought the truck new in 78' and ordered it with the buckets. His son then proceeded to wrap it around a tree a few weeks ago. They are in excellent shape. I am going to get new covers for them and paint the console. All I need now is to find a set of the perches that weld to the floor so I can bolt them in. If anyone has any or has a line on some let me know. I believe suburbans that had buckets have them.
