Re: Cheap Tricks

Don't think this has been posted:

If you ever have to do welding on a gas tank: drain it of course, then
take an empty gallon jug and add a quart bottle of DAWN dish washing
soap finish filling the jug with water then pour it in the tank and slosh around
for about five minutes, let it set for half hour then slosh it around again and drain, rinse with water from garden hose real good and there are no fumes!!!

I've used this method and it works, How i found out about it one day a buddy and i were talking about how we approached welding on gas tanks by using exhaust fumes from a running engine, tank full of water etc. and my wife
happened to walk up while we were talking and said "what about dawn dish washing soap it cuts all kinds of grease in the dish washer" at first we laughed then after a while it made since. don't mind telling you that the first time trying it, the pucker factor was high but i'm still here and that was ten years ago.

Amen, brother. I got all mine for free from a business that was moving and getting new stuff.

Those red metal bars I attached to the top of the hoist serve two purposes. Clothesline for drying washed rags and tarps, and a means of hanging tarps all around the hoist when I'm doing dirty work that I'd like to contain in one area.

Used existing holes...

I use this electric winch to pull vehicles onto the hoist when they won't start. Six heavy bolts into the 6" concrete floor. Works like a dream.

Good thread.

I found out that a CD diamond case works very well for scraping ice.

I use the back side of my comb to scrape the ice off but sometimes my wife goes out and cranks the truck up for it to defrost before she wakes me up.

It's OK though,I'm older and wiser now,I can see out of my eye again and I've even managed to work my way into sleeping indoors again.

Re: Cheap Tricks

I like my way better (the wife part) but I am more spoiled than most as I understand it. She also cooks my breakfast before waking me up and brings me a cup of coffee to get me started in the morning ,damn I am spoiled ,and I like it. Did I mention she loves all my old cars and my truck ? She actually sacrificed her 68 Malibu for me to restore my truck.

Re: Cheap Tricks

We used 1 wire back in the day.
Just touch bumpers together for negative, and wire for positive.
usually a coat hanger.
of course all bumpers were chrome back then.

Ditto on the windshield, hot water, and cold weather. Not a good match.

Re: Cheap Tricks

While out cruising one night late, the oil fill plug fell out the side of my differential. Nothing open, I was screwed. My wife saved me,.... she had a Tampax that plugged the hole nicely and got us home.

LOL!

Two comments here:

1) I was at the track one time and was struggling with an engine oil leak. My buddy actually carries "feminine products" in his race car trailer for just such an emergeny. A couple maxi-pads taped to the back of the oil pan got me through the day!

2) Plug on the side of the differential fell out?! Geez - I wish I had that problem. Mine's stuck solid, so I've set aside a day to drill it out and make a repair....

Re: Cheap Tricks

Here's another handy tool to have. Ever pulled all the wires off yer Dist cap to change it, then had to take time to trace down which wire went to which cyl? Don't want Sharpie writing on your nice clean wires? Try these;

ELDERLY drivers. Pressing the pedal on your right will make your car go a little faster. Forget all that rubbish about suffocating at speeds above 15mph, it was all a myth
