How to identify transmission and what fluid?

I am getting ready to put the transmission and engine together and into the truck. The only problem is I am trying to find out what type of fluid to use in the transmission and how to identify it.

Its the original 3-speed manual transmission out of my 1984 C-10.

This is the only picture I have of it at the moment. I can get some more later today after work if i need to.

Thanks in advance!

80w or 90w gear lube. Can find it most anywhere, Walmart to parts stores

Re: How to identify transmission and what fluid?

Go to Amsoil.com and you can put in your truck info and it will show the recommended lube and volume to use.

Saginaw 3 speed.
No need to use designer oil in your trans. Dinosaur squeezins should do just fine. 1.5 Quarts of 80W90 GL-5 Gear Oil is what GM lists on Page 0B-7 of the 1984 light truck service manual... capacities are on page 0A-6.

There are several writeups on how to adjust the column shifter.

must be the technical term. As for the column shifter I’m sure it will need some adjustment. Towards the end of when I last drove it I started to have some issues with it getting hung up.
