What HP is really in the 91 Silverado 350/5.7 engine.
Does anyone really know what the early 90s 5.7 engines, with TBI systems had for horsepower ratings? I had the impression that these engines were low compression, low HP rated and this supports their longivity. The numbers that I have heard are around 160 HP from the new car lot. Yet, there are individuals that have psted the numbers as high as 210 hp from the dealers.
Does anyone know the real numbers. I am looking to replace the 275,000 mile engine in my truck and I am looking at a setup from Pace Performance. This new setup has around 265 HP complete from the crate. This will have the Edelbrock multi-point fuel injection, to assist in the improvement Last edited by piecesparts; 04-05-2009 at 03:21 PM. |

Hey you didn't insult me, I just like the tbi system for a daily driver because of the simplicity of the system. I know tbi has its problems but it is simple to work on and the parts are cheap thats all I am sayin.

Re: What HP is really in the 91 Silverado 350/5.7 engine.
The Heavy Duty 3/4 and 1 tons had 190 Horsepower 350's and the 1/2 ton and light 3/4 ton's (7200 GVW) had 200. These were the figures for '95 TBI engines.

The 4.3 V6 was rated at 160, the 5.0 was 175. I think the 350 was rated around 190-200 depending on what model you got.

Re: What HP is really in the 91 Silverado 350/5.7 engine.
As I said guys, my truck yhas 275,000 miles and the truck is still strong. I want to update the engine and even look at something that has some more performance.
Combustion is right to some degree about the TBI, however it is a solid system. There are better and more efficient systems in the world. The Throttle body was a poorly designed idea, of having two injectors spraying onto the butterflies of the unit. That in itself creates a poor fuel dispersion system. The install of a TB Spacer allows for that dispersion to increase, since it has a way to mixing up the fuel and air again. The multipoint injection gets the same amount of fuel to each and every cylinder that a carb or a center mounted TBI unnit soes not, so effectively MORE horsepower is available. The end cylinders are not starved like a center mounted unit does. |

Throttle body spacer (AIRRAID, for example) is legitimate. Don't even think about using a Tornado device. It's all hype, to me. It sounds logical, but it didn't work when I tried it out. Good thing it had a 30-day money-back warranty. I was driving enough to do a good test of it, too.

Re: What HP is really in the 91 Silverado 350/5.7 engine.
Everything I had read had the -89-91 Burb's with either 190 or 210. I didn't pay attention but I "assume" it had to to with light duty vs. heavy duty.
