look for two of the bolt holes to be threaded and you can screw in bolts and hook a chain to them and pull it out. If that don't work then post your question here http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/transmission-rearend/

I've never had a pump that was really stuck in the case, even after sitting for a long time.

Remove all the bolts, then with the pan off, stick a big screwdriver up the back side and lever on it a little. They've always popped right out for me.

I had a trans shop tell me that the lock-up solenoid in the trans has to come out or it will break off when the front pump is pulled.

Here is a picture of the puller but at a cost of $90 bucks I would try one of the above methods.

That is true. Solenoid has to come out first. Been there, done that, broke that <raising hand>.

You can make a tool to get the rear piston out. Get half a muffler clamp, the formed steel piece, (not the u bolt) drill a hole in the center and use a bolt or chunk of threaded rod and drill a hole in a piece of wood or steel.

Put the clamp in the tranny, curved part to the rear, run the bolt out the back thru the hole in the wood block and tighten the nut to squeeze the springs down.

Outstanding idea. Now you got the chipmunks turning upstairs in my head my wife says she can smell the rubber burning now. LOL Thanks for that good idea.

Re: Transmission front pump removal 700R4

Here's the tool that my stepdad built after we looked thru many books, forums, tool sites, & more. The one already posted in this thread will only work on the older 700R4's (87 & Back) from what we can tell. This was based on the 2 or 3 early 90 models that we have which do not have the groove/slot behind the splines and finding a factory tool using the same principal as this one designed for the 4L60E's.
