How to remove trash from matte finish?

I finally reached the point of painting the interior which is a first for me. I wanted the interior not to be glossy and the local PPG guru sold me a product called flexed N flat. Id ask him but every time I check he isnt there or available.

The finish looks good to me but in shooting the interior of this cab there were 2 areas that the same trashy texture happened and I have never corrected a finish before. Ive outlined the area in blue in the pic. Its the same on both sides, all I can guess is that the air circulation rollled around in the cab and pocketed in these zones. Whats the best approach to sanding out the trash and recoating? I didnt want to use the wrong grit paper or have more overspray in the cab and just repair the 2 trashy areas.

It looks like it "wrinkled" huh? There isn't much you can do to remove anything from Matte, repaint is about all you can do.

I am dying to see if anyone has any ideas because I would like to know if there is a way.

But yours looks like wrinkling, which isn't "trash" it's the solvents got under the substrate and lifted it.

Thanks for the help Brian, The pics may not have been detailed enough. Its very gritty, I think as I was spraying some inevitable sandblast material crept its way out of the crevices and said hi. Its so weird that the sand and trash accumulated only in these 2 areas of the cab. Im sure its a physics lesson to figure it out.

Rubbing my hand across is like sandpaper in those areas. My hope was to take 600 and lightly sand out the trash and spray the matte clear again to those areas only but Im in over my head as usual.

I tried a few different light sources when taking these pics. Hopefully this helps show better detail.

I'm going to guess that this is not foreign particles in your paint, but rather dry material. That is, grain from overspray or thickened paint blobs and strings. Curious that both places where it happened were adjacent to another panel at roughly 90 degrees to the other. Paint too thick can do this, to much air pressure can do this, not enough air pressure can cause this, bounced overspray, maybe gun angle ... see where I'm going? Just guessing. That's a lot of junk to come from nowhere.

That makes sense, I had shop vacuumed and sprayed air repeatedly all in that cab. Did a final degreaser and tack and got to it. I think what i have to do is sand out the trash (wet sand I think?) and prepare to shoot base and clear all over again. Since there isnt a seam close by to tape off I think thats what I have to do unless anyone else has a suggestion.

no dice....once you wet sand it, that area looks smooth then and doesn't blend to the matte. I ended up full repainting it..

matte is not fun, I ended up realizing, seems you get one shot. To me it also looks like some dry or stray overspray landed there on yours giving that rough feel.

Yep, if you are going to shoot a matte, use a basecoat clearcoat with a matte clearcoat, that is the absolute easiest way to pull it off.

Man, I wish I would have paid more attention. I asked the PPG paint guy about the fawn interior color match and he had a formula all worked out to match. I cant remember if the Flexd N Flat was part of the match to the interior sheen from 66 or if he recommended that after I mentioned the concern about glare off the dash and thought the interior shouldnt be high gloss. Ill be redoing this one looks like.

Can you explain this Brian? Getting lost on the double clear coat.

No double clear, you apply your base coat then a matte or flat clear.

since you are using base / flattened clear, you should be able to wet sand the clear till it's 'cleaned up' and then recoat just clear.
I was using single stage on that hood project, so I couldn't rework it. I think you would have success just touching up those areas on yours
