drop spindle
i just bought a set of mcgaughys drop spindles for my 67 c10, when i started to tighten the top ball joint the upper control arm started to hit the top of the spindle and started to lift the control arm as i was tightening. i know there is no load on the suspension but i didnt think it would hit like it is doing.
has anyone else had this problem? do i need to grind a bit away from my upper control arms for these spindles to fit? here is a picture of what i am talking about, |

Yes it is pretty common. I started a thread on this a few years ago. Several people said it was common on certain mfg spindles. Mine are Western Chassis. I ended up trimming my freshly powder coated control arms then had to touch up with paint.

I would first verify you are using the correct ball joints for that spindle before cutting anything just to be safe.

Yeah I just ordered new balljoints because I am not really sure what the PO had in there, they were not divided I so they are not original, and the lower balljoints are not looking like they were original. The more I am searching I see it is pretty common

Was the picture taken with the a-arm at full droop?
Usually there is no contact with the weight of the truck (with engine) on the wheels.

Did you get the conversion 67-70 spindles or just the 71-72 replacements? If you got the latter, you need to get 71-72 balljoints.
