new short box bed sides update

Got a e mail from AMD about the bed sides. Yes, this is a brand new set of tool and dies that we developed off of good, original bed sides. We’ve only got one side in stock at the moment, but we hope to have plenty of stock come next spring. Since these are brand new parts and we’ve done all the versions from ’73-87, it takes some time to get them all stamped out and in stock. But we’re working on it!

Thanks for checking with us.

Well even tho the hit lines will still be off, at least thats something. It makes a difference if we are talking about the 100th or the 1,000,000th stamped bedside they pulled dimensions from to make dies. Are they Faro arming new ones based on an actual print with dimensions pulled from an NOS panel? I hope like hell the dies are not being deceloped overseas or even sent there once AMD has done their R&D.

It’s all made in Asia, otherwise they would be three times the amount.

Re: new short box bed sides update

Well maybe I’ll compare my green epoxy primed OE NOS shortbox sides to AMD sides whenever they come out. The ones I have are OLD OLD NOS square fuel door boxsides. Complete rust free boxes can be bought cheaper than I was trying to sell this pair for a few years back but I have no problem sitting on em either. I’ve never seen a matched NOS dual tank set of sides for sale anyway besides mine.
Then again, with Trumps’ tariffs in effect who knows when or if the Chinese (more than likely it’ll be Taiwan) panels will be ready.

I'm tempted to sell the aftermarket set i have now and get a pair of these new ones, I would guess they will fit better and require less body work than what I have.

Re: new short box bed sides update

I wanted to share that I decided to buy a set of these new AMD Bedsides. They arrived last week - they were packed very well (I'm guessing they do not want any shipping damage issues, which I appreciated).

Initial impressions, they are very well made panels. They are heavy just like GM ones and there is little to no flex when you push on the sides. I have bolted up the passenger side to a factory GM floor, and I do see the bolt holes are not lining up exactly like the OEM ones, so they will need some holes opened up, but they are light years closer than the last pair of aftermarket sides I owned.

I do not think they will take much body work to get them strait, and the build quality appears to be very high. If your having a tough time finding a set of GM panels, then these are probably worth spending the extra money on over the basic aftermarket sides.

Re: new short box bed sides update

I paid around $1300 for the pair with shipping. More than the basic ones from all the dealers which run around $350 a side (plus shipping), but I think its well worth the extra due to a lot less time trying to them to fit correctly and the body work needed on the basic ones.
