Its MUSTARD not ochra !

I found the proof today when cleaning the firewall on Franks 72 suburban. I almost washed it off .The pen they marked it with was so close to ochra that I almost missed it. Next question is why did the factory feel it nessesary to mark it ,the truck was already painted (or at least the firewall was). I have seen the yellow marking elsewhere on the truck under the heater blower. I was told to never to remove these markings but seems a shame to do a frame off and not paint the firewall. Any suggestions?

Re: Its MUSTARD not ochra !

Okra is a green vegetable. Ochre is a mustard yellow color. I am not sure what ochra is. :p Just giving you crap, I know you changed it on the second post.
That MUSTARD might have been written on the primer, and it's simply showing through the paint, that's why it's ghosted like that. I am not telling you that's what happened, just saying that it could be an option.

Definitely strange, West coast plant workers had more fun than that East coast guys. Total plant joke I'd say, but absolutely cool.

This is correct.

It was written on the primer, as a heads up to the painter, and is now bleeding through the color coat.

As far as "slang" terms - I wish I had a dollar for every "hockey puck", "hockey stick", "pig snout" or "donkey d*ck" that I've come across in a vehicle assembly plant. Those guys are pretty imaginative.

You should hear what they call each other!

First time you've seen "graffiti"? or the first time you've seen it called "mustard"?

We've got some pretty good threads going on assembly plant markings.

One other thought: that's why Engineering always refers to the colors by their RPO code (ie, "67U" or "21L") or the WA number (WA7475 = Code 72U Apple Red; WA8555 = Camaro Black).

The marketing folks can call it whatever they want, regardless of the color. As a result you might get several noun names for the same color:

Chevrolet = "Midnight Black"
GMC = "Tuxedo Black"
Cadillac = "Black Diamond" (I was being faceteous the first time I said this, but shortly afterwards actually saw this very color on a storyboard inside the Design Studio).

Like the "Hugger Orange" vs "Carousel Red" debate.

You also get oddities like "Veridian Joule" (which is teal) - and -"Silver Topaz" (light blue).

That's also why I don't work in Marketing. I call 'em as I see 'em ("Buick Racing Beige" and "Pea Green Babypoop Metallic" are a couple of personal favorites).

Two from today's conversations:

"moustache" (refering to the piece of grille trim, attached to the hood)

"dog leg" (the bottom portion of the fender behind the front wheel opening)
