Fleetside Rear Bumper for a Stepside

I have a step side truck and I want to get chrome front and rear bumpers. Here's my dilemma: In the future I may put a fleetside bed on it. If I do I don't want to buy another bumper. Has anyone put a fleet bumper on a step bed before? Are they wider? Do you have pics?

Re: Fleetside Rear Bumper for a Stepside

Yes, fleet-side bumpers are wider than step-side bumper.

Here is a picture of my truck with a fleet-side bumper on my step-side, it is not chrome as you can see and it looks too wide for the step-side. Since I use this truck here on the farm I want to stay with a step bumper and will narrow it someday.

Re: Fleetside Rear Bumper for a Stepside

The two are slightly different. The step has that angle on the corners where the fleet is straight.

Re: Fleetside Rear Bumper for a Stepside

Here also that could be a blessing finding good rear non damaged step bed bumper is slightly harder to find than the fleet. As most vendors carry the one in stock as there is more demand. So you shouldn't have any problems selling the step bumper if you don't jack it up.

Re: Fleetside Rear Bumper for a Stepside

I ran my truck with a fleet bumper as a stepside for quite some time because I always thought I would buy a fleet bed...

It does look odd...

Compared to a "proper" step bumper...

I have a 70 step side which is missing a bumper after I got hit years ago. In my barn I also found a chrome bumper which I bought years ago to go on the truck. I'm not certain if the bumper is for fleet or step sides though. It is just under 71" wide at the worst point. Does anyone know how wide a chrome step side bumper should be?
