Interior noise inside 2Door Tahoe???

I have a 1999 2door Tahoe and I have a noise that comes from where the passengers feet rest right above them. Under the glove box there is the black plastic box that looks like thats what brings in the heat or ac into the vents. It sounds like the door that opens or closes depending if you are letting in outside air or closing it to not let outside air in opens and shuts on its own. I will hear a sound that seems like it slams shut kinda loud and sometimes it's a lot more quiet than other times. Also hear tapping sounds that are like 3-5 seconds apart, thats how it started. Kind of a knocking sound. And also hear like a faint sound of humming like a electrcal motor noise. Could it be that the motor that opens and closes to let or not let outside air in is going bad? Thanks for any info or help guys.

Re: Interior noise inside 2Door Tahoe???

Was driving earlier today and pushed the button that lets the outside air in or not and I pushed it to close and not let outside air in but it kept letting outside air in and it sounded like the door for the vent was trying to close but did not Could the motor or switch for it be bad?

Re circulation door actuator. It has plastic gears that strip giving you that click noise. Have fun, it's a real pita to do

68c15 thanks for the info. Yeah I figured it had to do with the control for the inside/outside air. Gonna be a fun one lol. Probably invent some cuss words that day lol

Re: Interior noise inside 2Door Tahoe???

I just had to replace my recirculate door actuator on my '96. It's not fun, but doable. There is NO documentation anywhere for the recirc door actuator, the blend and direction actuators, yes, but not the recirc one. It is directly forward of the blower motor between the hvac box and the vertical portion of the firewall. You can lay down in the passenger foot area, look up, and see it. I want to say it was the usual 7MM interior screws, 2 of them? Maybe 3.

EDIT: Just realized this thread is 2-years old. Hope that info helps someone. I couldn't find much when I was researching my click click click click click underdash.

I had to pull my floormat out so I didn't lay in the dirt. A while ago I spoiled myself and bought the mid-length Snap-on 1/4 drive sockets and locking flexhead 80 tooth ratchet, I was able to reach up and get the job done with that. I'd recommend unplugging it first and plugging it back in last.
