81 bed swap question.

I am new to the forum. I have 2 81 pickups. ! fleet side 1 step side. I want to put the step side bed on the fleet side chassis. My question is are they interchangeable?

Thanks in advance.

Absolutely.

Assuming they are the same wheelbase (ie, both SWB or LWB); the only changes required might be the gravel shields over the rear bumper.

Re: 81 bed swap question.

81-87 should match without any problem as long as wheel base are same length and fuel tanks are on same side? Is that correct?

Re: 81 bed swap question.

Yes the side tank will line up with the step side. Only problem is if you have dual tanks. you will have to make sure your pass fender has a gas cap door in it.

If I remember correctly the harness follows the frame rail to the back . No need to do anything there and just remove the tail lights and remove the socket and harness and drop it down on both sides and you done . You will see when you get in there .

The harness does unplug in the bumper. The bolt holes for the bolts holding the bed will line up??
