What electric fans to go with - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Are there any electric fan shrouds that fit the c1” radiator. I don’t care what car or truck it comes from just looking to save some money by picking some up in a junk yard

Consider grabbing something with a full shroud and then trimming it to bolt to the inside of your factory shroud. Opens up the options quite a bit. Can't go wrong with Lincoln Mark VIII fans, certain 90s Taurus fans, or the 90s V8 Thunderbird units. I picked up the T-bird fan for $20 at salvage.

But how does it know when to come on? Wire it to the temp sensor in the head somehow?

That's just a sensor. You'd need to add a thermoswitch somewhere in the system. Lots of easy ways to do this. There's some wiring involved (switch, relays, etc.) but nothing crazy. They also make fan controller kits that are pretty much plug and play. Typically, those will come with a radiator temp probe instead of a switch.

I’ve got several HD options as well for fan control harnesses.

Hayden makes a nice fan sensor kit that goes in between the radiator fins.

I've used Hayden kits in a couple vehicles & work great.

They even give you the option of a manual override switch you can add at the dash.

From what I understand the guy that’s doing my harness and my fuse box for my ls the relays and fan controls will be handled by the ecm

These fans have got some power have to be mounted on the motor side. 4 wire Large Brown= ground Large red= main Power Small green/blue strip =keyed power (fused) small black/red strip= ground

My Mark VIII 3-speed fans blow away most OEM fans-4500 CFM @ high high speed. Using my resistor speed harness it eliminates high inrush spikes and my integrated relay bank wired to control all 3 speeds also have an AC override.

Duel 77-87 Factory air cleaner, duel inlet from rad support . Down sized 9' to new 8' Steel flat bed Was a 77 454 w/308 gear. Taken out 550 lbs. up front with motor clip change.
