Re: first and second series pu's titles

I believe that the true VIN back then was the casting # on the block. I learned this the hardway when I went to pick up my new plates at the DMV. The number on the door tag didn't match the VIN on the slip(title). I thought that I had bought a "hot" truck 16 years ago and was just finding out about it. Then I did some talking to older hot rodders who let me in on the secret. I guess if you swapped motors you had to apply for a new title. I'm stamping my chassis, bed and cab with both sets of #'s.

Where on the frame (Chassis) is there a number stamped on a 48 to 55 1st series?

I don't think that GM did stamp them. But I am going to for insurance purposes. Both the VIN on my title and the ID# that appears on the door post.
