Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

Took me awhile to find a tool/storage box to fit my '62 stepside bed. Most I looked at were just too wide to fit over the rails & between the bed sides. Finally found one which fits perfectly, both over the rails & between the bed sides. The black powder coat diamond plate finish matches my rubber diamond plate interior bed sides nicely too.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

I picked up this antique FIRST-AID Kit out of an old Chevy school bus. Remember these? It's small enough to fit in the cab and hold a few tools and other goodies. Hinges and clasps still work. I will leave it looking just like it is.

You can occasionally find them on eBay but I got mine for free! Woohoo!

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

Here's mine and a couple more things. They all 3 get used quite a bit, especially the fuel can on longer country trips. The cross cables are for the dogs when I run through town (they have to be leashed by law when in the bed of a truck while in the. City) The cooler is screwed down and serves a few purposes. Its mostly my lunch box, soup hauler and messy greasy parts hauler if I don't have a small box. It wipes out easy and I have a chrome grated sink drain that I plan on installing allowing easy wash out as the drain will clear tube out the board beneath it. I scored the Ranger cooler off Fleabay and painted it up at work, saving the OG decal and installed a new lid seal.

The wide white was a wrecking yard find complete with the old chaulk stock number. Ihave always had a tire in every truck as it allows you to softly haul engines, large flat items and the center doubles as a small parts holding area. The wide white just is cool and another conversation starter.

The fuel can was a old lawn mower garage back up that I blasted and painted up then added the Gilmore decal. I always carry a medium can of gas in every rig and hate the new plastic ones.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

Cool stuff. Sure am glad I found this thread, sorta makes it all worth while. I really like the first aid box, I remember em hangin up front of the bus as a kid.

I thought I liked the under hood portable tool box on page one of this thread till I saw the Anco box and some of your stuff. Great ideas and its just super that we can share em here where our trucks are.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

I found a 60" UWS aluminum tool box on eBay locally that fits quite well in the back of my '63 long wide. I had to get a key and fix the latch but the price was right. It is attached to the bed by (6) 5/16"x2 1/2" bolts that pass through (6) hockey pucks to raise the box off the bed boards. This should make cleaning easier and allow the bed to dry underneath. The box is still below the bed rail even with the extra inch of height from the hockey pucks. It's nice to have a trunk now.

...ned.

Heres one I posted in a different thread, but I think it's more at home here. This guy used keg in place of the fender mounted spare. Turned it into a toolbox.

Re: toolboxes or other storage containers in your trucks

Small metal ammo cans fit nicely under the hood, on top of the fender, and are well sealed. I do not know the caliber of the ones we got, but can check when I get home if anyone is interested. Got one for each truck.

Can do! They are not mounted yet, trying to come up with a secure way to mount them, so they are easily removed, and secure at the same time.

Here you go. Also included pics of storage in his bed. Planning on making the gas can and this larger ammo can into storage as well. We have a plan for fastening them down to make sure they stay in the truck too. The 230 is long gone now.
