Need help with 4 link

I just purchased a rear end off Craigslist for my 68 c10, the rear end has a 4 link set up and I'd like to use it and get rid of the trailing arms set up. I need ideas and help to put a four link set up and what all needs to happen and any ideas are welcome. I wanting for it to be a sreet/strip set up. If there are any kits that would work I'd like to know what ones

Re: Need help with 4 link

Those are 4 link brackets. It would have had a diagonal link or a wishbone setup to keep it in the middle. You are going to need a setup like this to go in the back. It should be setup on a chassis jig to get it all in straight. Also before you go to far you may want to ensure that the housing and brackets are all straight.

Re: Need help with 4 link

The guy I bought the rear end from said he ran a Comp engineering magnum 4 link. So I'd have to run a wish bone set up so the rear end won't move? And will let I have to back half my frame?

All u need to do is get or make 4 link bars to mount to the rear end an then make of buy brackets to mount the front of the 4 link bars to the frame then make or get a panhard bar that welds to the frame then welds to the axle so the rear end dont move from side to side.....im curious did u do any research before hand?

Re: Need help with 4 link

You are going to need to back half it to get it to do like it should. They take up a lot of room and need room to move. Here is a picture of the Comp rear frame with that four link installed. Gives you a good idea of what it looks like with the entire system and it shows the coil over mounting and the diagonal link installed. My suggestion is that you find a good chassis shop and get some help.

Re: Need help with 4 link

I did a little research and could find what I was looking for. Could I use a different set up than doing a back half because I'm kind of on a budget. Could I notch the frame and still be able to run it or would I need a different kind of 4 link for that?

Re: Need help with 4 link

You either need to go down the road correctly or not at all. If you don't do this as it needs to be done than you could be in worse shape than a stock setup. A four link setup wrong can be an evil ***** to drive under power. It looks like it has c-clip eliminators and disc brakes. You could look int swapping that stuff into your housing. Has it got a spool in it and what gear? How wide is it?

Re: Need help with 4 link

It has a posi and 4.56 gears. Would I be easier to just swap out the rear ends and keep the trailing arms? And I've seen these trucks with 4 link and they used a step notch. So I'm curious if I could do it that way?

Re: Need help with 4 link

Maybe I am missing something but why not cut off the brackets and weld on a set of trailing arm perches?

Re: Need help with 4 link

I guess he thought a 4 link would be easy and simple since the axle already has brackets on it.But like said a 4 link has to be set up right or else its a nightmare and its a lot of cutting and welding to get right.

Re: Need help with 4 link

The reason I asked about the width is that his stock rear is 62 3/8, the later ones are 63 3/4 and if they did the c-clip eliminators using a stock with axle its now 2" wider and the added thickness of the disc can ad another 1/2" over the thin drums. So this setup can be 3 1/2" wider than what is in the truck. That means new wheels. There is a huge difference between the street four links you see on bagged trucks that go to the outside of the frame and a race four link. He is stuck with the width of the housing and the width of the four link brackets. And before any work gets planned it is really important to make sure the housing and brackets are straight and that the axle tubes have not moved in the center section. I have seen the factory spot welds break in both dragrace and off road housings. Chris Alston's chassis works is in Sacremento. I would take a trip up and have a conversation with them about going to this fourlink. Putting your eyes on this stuff in the store I think will help more than we can do with post here.

Re: Need help with 4 link

What would be a good set up with trailing arms to make it hook? It seems like I should just keep it that way since I don't have the money and time to do the 4 link set.
