Stock column mount

I have a 1950 chevy and I need to get an aftermarket steering column. I think Flaming River is the way I will go but I am not sure. Has anyone ordered a column the same diameter as the stock original (stock floor shift so no shifter on column) and just used the factory mounts instead of using those drop mounts? I think the drops are ugly.

I installed an Ididit automatic column and made a bracket to hold it in the stock location and it works great. I don't care for the look of the drop brackets either, plus with the stock seat the steering wheel would be on my legs.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, my truck is apart for paint right now. I would recommend mocking it up and sitting in the truck. Make sure it's comfortable and the steering wheel isn't blocking the gauges. The steering wheel diameter will make a difference also, so be sure whatever you use for mock up is the same size your steering wheel will be when finished.

I suppose I could try and make a bracket too. I was hoping to just use the stock one if the columns were the same diameter. I still have to decide on a seat too.

I'm not sure of the stock column diameter vs new floor shift. I have an auto column so I had to make a bracket.

I will say my stock seat is high, I'm 5' 10" and I feel like I look out the top of the windshield. At some point I might modify the seat like this build: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=725080&page=3

So you may want to figure out your seat height and column at the same time.
