Question on swapping to a 00-07 GM 14 bolt on my 66 GMC

I have an opportunity to pick up a GM 14 bolt full floater with disc brakes and 4:10 gears for my 1966 GMC one ton. The friend of a friend has 3-4 SRW differentials pulled from GM 2500HDs ranging between 2000-2007.

I'm about to swap out the front drum brakes and suspension for modern disc brake suspension from a 1989 R3500. Staying with 8 lug one ton gear.

My thinking is the 14 bolt would give me more available parts and a parking brake. I would just have to buy a different portioning valve.

MY questions are:
- Can I use my dual rear wheels over the disc brakes?
- What other hidden surprises am I missing?

I think those differentials are much wider that your stock one, like 5-6” wider, have you measured?

I'm working away from home so I haven't measured either yet.

I was thinking about changing to a SRW because of the hassle of registration and insurance in Massachusetts. I have to register and insure as a commercial vehicle.....

but, I really like the DRW look and with the narrow rear axle the duallys fit nicely under my stepside bed.

Wow yeah you have the narrow rear, the new axle is going to be wider than what you have. I keep thinking early narrow DRW was around 63.5" WMS and the newer SRW would be near 69"
