1970 C10 advice

Hello all, I am new here and was looking to get some advice. I have a 70 C10 with stock 350 small block. I am wanting to change out my intake and carb. It's currently the stock intake and 2b carb. Any thoughts on what my options might be. I will use it mostly as a vehicle I drove a couple of days a week. Like it to be a little aggressive but not crazy. Thanks

If you aren't going to put a stall on it I would go with a dual plane intake like the Edelbrock performer( gives you the torque at lower rpm's). If no other engine mods are planned I wouldn't go bigger than a 600 cfm carb.

Edelbrock performer intake and Edelbrock 600 electric choke carb. Now there is a company that makes a copy called cyclone you can find on E-bay for less money but unless you have to ... For the diff in the money go with the name assc with long term quality and service. This is also a perfect upgrade for later if you desire a little more performance you can add on to it from therein sections like.

I have sheetrock performer manifolds on almost all my engines. Call me crazy but for a mild daily driver I am partial to a Quadra.I like the small primaries for cruising and big secondarily for passing!

Re: 1970 C10 advice

Aluminum intake and Quadrajet. Look around on Ebay and find a stock GM Qjet intake or an Edelbrock Performer, Weiand 8004, or similar Holley or Offenhauser dual plane spread-bore intake. If you have a stock bottom end, there is no reason to go crazy-a stock Qjet will do just fine.

If you want to up the performance a bit and still stay stock bottom end you could look at throttle body (TBI) or Tuned-Port (TPI) fuel injection. Both would be a definite improvement over a 2bbl and would improve performance, mileage, and reliability.

Edelbrock dual plane intake and a Quadrajet...right as rain in my 71 longbed GMC. Quadrajet is basically a 2 barrel until you hammer it.

How about a self learning EFI system?

What's the budget?
If you don't have much money, go to the local U-Pull-It and get a nice electric choke quadrajet and quadrajet manifold. If you have much to choose from you should be able to find a nice stock aluminum manifold that they used from the late 70s to about 85, make sure it is not too corroded. You can get an EGR blockoff plate or leave the valve on just don't use it. Select a quadrajet from 1980-89 305-454 Chevy/GMC trucks with electric choke and you will get the equivalent of an Edelbrock 1904. You might be able to run it without repair, you might need to have a kit installed maybe you can do that yourself. Quadrajet will probably work best on your application if you have the small 2bbl intake valves. If it bogs, merely tighten the secondary air flapper.

Sadly, Edelbrock stopped making them so that was the last of the new quadrajets however more and more people are rebuilding them $.

If you have some loose change in your pockets new is always better, and the edelbrock performer manifold and edelbrock performer AFB are always good choices but I believe you can save a little on the Summit brands and have very good parts/success.

A cross between a Motocraft and a Holley, great reviews; 279.97$ shipped

Re: 1970 C10 advice

Thanks for all the info. I'm trying to keep my budget reasonable at the moment. I want to stay away from EFI for now. I have managed to get my hands on a edelbrock carb for a decent price. It probably need a rebuild but, that is fine with me. Now I just have to find an intake. Also wanting to add power brakes soon too. We will see where this takes me.

If it's an Edelbrock AFB, it's easy to rebuild. I did one when I was 16, just cleaned it good and set the floats. Just put everything back in the way it came out. I love Q-jets, but AFB's are good too and easy to rebuild.

Get a dual plane square bore manifold. If you find a nice spreadbore manifold cheap, get one of these.
