Your truck was made at the Oakland CA plant. I'll get it updated to the list.

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

I've got a Baltimore truck - 3C154B115053. Anyone know what the "RM" suffix means in the trim code Z62RM?

Thanks for the new additions..

Bighunting....I can look it up tonight when home and let you know if no one else chimes in.

Z62 is the custom comfort option

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

I'm just curious about this I don't know if it was a 1/2 year model thing or if somewhere along the way my truck got a 64 cab? Here is my VIN and a pic so you know exactly what I mean. 3C154J141682

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

The VIN I have is from the title, I would look for it on the truck but I won't be able to for about 20 or so days because I currently live in Italy, but I am moving back soon.
So I will try to find the VIN #'s in multiple locations on the truck.

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

There is a VIN # on the frame also....driver side, top of the rail between the upper a-arm and cab. See what you have there and also a pic of the VIN id plate in the piller. That is definitely a 64-66 cab and we have multiple VIN #'s that are later than yours. Looks like someone swapped the cab out at some point.

You know that 0 in your vin is a letter, not a number, right? that identifies the Oakland plant. I had trouble with mine, DMV put a 5 in place of the S, (for St. Louis). DMV inspector who fixed mine said they always have problems, people read that digit as a number (S becomes a 5, O becomes a 0, B even becomes an 8. etc.) The old timers at the DMV know to watch for this, I think all Chevys of this period are prone to this due to the alpha numeric breakup in the middle of the vin.

Great point. The 63 fleetside I picked up a few months back is a Baltimore truck "B" code and SC had it titled as an "8". I had to argue with NC, but had the title corrected to a "B".

Interested note. Members Davbowen's 63 and 1963Chevyc20 have trucks that are only 100 digits apart off the same assembly line from Oakland

I checked the vin on the frame of the truck as well as the paper work I have from the previous owner and the truck is a 64 but for whaytever reason clerical mistake or otherwise the AZDOT messed up the title and put an incorrect VIN number on it for both me and the previous owner. Also the truck was reassigned a state vin number and that is what should have been on the title the trucks original or in this case some other trucks original vin number. Thanks again for the info and suggestion.

Yeah.....for being 51 years old its pretty cool to find a truck that came off the same line just hours apart. Odds are the same hands worked on them. Very cool!!!

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

I have somehow missed this thread for quite a while. Well, time to fix that!! Here's my entry....

VIN = 3C254J126938

This truck was delivered to Lowell Lust Chevrolet (now Steven Lust Chevrolet) in Aberdeen, SD. It was purchased by an Aberdeen farmer with a customer delivery date of April 19, 1963. The truck passed to that farmer's son in the 70's and in late 70's - early 80's was parked in a barn. The man I bought it from pulled it from the barn. I am the fourth registered owner of this truck.

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

I guess I should add mine to this list... another St Louis truck. From what I've seen, my C10 was in Oklahoma up until a few years ago. It was then sold and moved to Orlando FL area where I purchased it earlier this year.

VIN # is 3C144S131420.

Short Fleetside SBW, 283 3 on the tree. Originally 503 solid Glenwood Green paint.

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

I'll add my small fleet of '63's

1) My first vehicle that my dad bought for me in the fall of 1975. I have since given this to my son. Originally a 283, SM420, 3.73, BBW, LWB, light blue and white, Custom Cab with all the trim 3C154O104072

2)I purchased this one in the early to mid 80's to build as a SWB Pro Street truck. No engine or trans. 3C154O112526

3)This is a Suburban that I purchased in the late 80's to build as a 4x4. No engine or trans. 3C146H107617

4) This is my C60 that my friend helped me buy in Rupert Idaho. It was sold new by Hanzel's Chevrolet in Rupert, Idaho, to the city of Paul, Idaho. It has a 292, 5 speed, 2 speed rear. 3C653S175070

5) I acquired this truck last year in a trade for some work and parts. It is a light blue and white, Custom Cab BBW, side trim, sail panels, aluminum grill and chrome bumper. This is identical to my first truck aside from the 230, 3 speed. 3C154O123214

Atlanta Plant!

My great-grandfather bought it nearly new and used it on his farm near Anderson, SC. He gave it to my grandfather and it was given new paint and body work in the 80's. It was stolen and taken back to Atlanta. Amazingly it was recovered and brought back to SC. He gave it to me and now it is in Texas being brought back to life.
