TH400 rebuild kit question
I'm planning to buy a shift kit from Transgo (400-Pro). They don't sell rebuild kits but they recommended that I "make sure the kit contains OE style Borg Warner paper friction plates". I'm searching around and I can't find anywhere that even lists that as an option. Anyone have a recommendation?

I don't think there would be an issue if you ordered a quality rebuild kit...maybe even from transgo themselves

transtar is a dam good bang for the buck rebuild kit .

If you've never done a 400 before be advised they not like a T350 in one way.
There is a bolt in the case that holds the center support in, and you must remove the valve body to get after this bolt. Other than that they are pretty much like a T350. Good Luck! |

Thanks for the advice guys. My friend will be helping me with the rebuild (I've never even seen the inside of a transmission). My biggest question was about the paper style friction plates, since I'm not sure if that is important or why it was recommended. I'm planning to go with a TCI kit.

Anybody's good quality kit will have the friction material you need. Just check your clearance after you stack them in the drums & after you get them set remove the frictions & soak them in ATF for an hr or so & re-install them & you'll be fine.

Clinebarger turned me on to this guy for the kits, https://www.ebay.com/usr/worldwidepa...72.m2749.l2754 He's thorough and his pricing is hard to beat. Most all your stage 1&2 kits will have the paper frictions...
