Like Ryan said, 90* boots like to blow off. I've had them go at 30 and sometimes 35, but not many times. The idle speed can make it shake too. If you don't have all the air bled out it'll do it too. Do you have a vid of it running?

Just throwing this out there, not sure, but what about boot locks were you basically weld a tab on each pipe and bolt some flat bar to each other? I have seen this done on some setups but not sure if it can be done on angled connections.

I've done this before, but it's still a good idea to eliminate any really un needed joints to celebrate possible problem areas. The aluminum tubing he used really looks cool, but when you crank down a t bolt style clamp, it will disform these pipes and when the boot blows it just pushes the pipe right out. I've even had the tabs that were welded on be torn off and the boot still blows off. This was in a 90* situation. My dad's 91 F-350 has the same tubing and boots and is the problem child I'm mainly speaking of. If you don't eliminate some of those boots, at very least keep a 7/16" or 11mm socket and ratchet in the truck because you're going to need it. One of these days I'm going to redo dad's piping but it's hard to tear it apart to do it when it's his DD.

Ill get the intercooler piping all worked out soon enough. Im going to upgrade to a heavier duty boots throughout, and SS tubing where i can. Ultimately, I want a rig that doesnt need daily wrenching, and I appreciate your advice that will help keep me from doing that.

Im holding back on posting vids of it running until it is drivable, i will have a bunch posted shortly after. Its my milestone at this point. Shooting for this weekend if i can get my brake parts in time.

Keep up the good work. Eliminating some boots will definitely help. It sucks being on the side of the interstate with a load due to a blown boot. Been there done that.

Resolution to the brake MC pushrod!

If you have a hydroboost brake setup out of a 90's chevy 1 ton(code JD7), you will need a 2 3/4" length brake pushrod, rounded at both ends...

I ended up having to custom cut mine down, 2 3/4"-2 13/16" gave me a perfect 1/16" of brake preload once the MC was bolted to the HB unit.

Amsoil 4510 Air Filter and pre-filter

If you frequent the diesel forums, you will see the term "BHAF" in everyone's signature. in alot of cases, this means that they have purchased a gigantic paper 12"O.D. air filter fit for some sort of heavy equipment, and i have no idea how one of these fits in an engine compartment...

The Amsoil nanofiber filters are half the size of the "BHAF" paper air filters, filter much finer particulates, last longer, flow double the amount of air at the same pressure, and only cost 20$ more.

If thats not a no-brainer, then I dont know what is.. I adapted it to my stock intake tube with a 4" PVC bend.

I started to get body panels mocked-up this weekend. My goal is to put the body back together to ensure fitment, then break it back down when its time to paint. I also got lights installed.

You will see that I had to cut out the plastic grill inserts to make room for the intercooler. This is a non-issue, as i will end up buying some new inserts to cover.

You will also see that there is 0 room for the hood latch to mount. This was an issue, until i decided to go with hood "pins", like the race cars. I figure if i can find some nice recessed pins that you almost wont be able to tell.

In case you haven't noticed from the previous pictures, the truck has moved to the driveway. I wanted to wait to give reviews on my multiple test drives until now. I have been having too much fun to even think about taking videos.

This truck kicks ass! It has more power than it knows what to do with. With no bed to add weight over the rear tires, it will break the tires loose in 3rd gear while moving down the road. I have never owned a diesel, and am amazed at how freaking fast this thing is. It does not care what gear you are in, you will shortly be pinned to the seat. I still have tons of tuning to do, but for a few preliminary drives around the neighborhood I am more than satisfied. A huge plus for me is the low 1st gear, followed up by 4 really tall gears when you actually want to get moving.

PICS: At the pump, and a temporary bed to hold me over until i find a real one...

did you have a particular reason for mounting the driveline with the slip to the bottom? i think i would turn it end for end if it was me.

Nice work. I'm sure it's great to be able to drive it now! They definitely have power and the mileage is a great plus too. I think billet grills would fix your grill problem just fine. I've found some hood pins that had a pop machine style lock that were recessed before. I stayed away from them because I've heard too many stories from guys with locking hood pins. If there's an underhood fire, you have slim chances of getting to the hood pin locks to un lock the hood. My brother's 92 F-350 has regular hood pins and it isn't horribly ugly.

Funny that you mention the driveshaft, as i also thought it should have been the other way around. The t-case end has a flat flange to accept a double Cardan. Im thinking that it "had" to be this way to not complicate things. I may throw a boot over it next time i pull it off, hopefully to minimize dust/make it look better.

No one has noticed that the truck has a "C-20" badge. Yes, unfortunately it is a C20 cab on a K20 frame...

As far as the hood latches, i found this "Aerolatch" that is pretty cool.

True story... they had "c" badges and a four wheel drive badge under the front marker light

Looks like things are coming together real nice now. Probably going to be hard to finish now that you can drive it lol.

I like that. I think Blazers had a K5 badge, maybe the K could come off and attache to a 20.

I work at a place called CTS with a blue background. We have lots of badges. The color matches my truck, so I was going to upgrade my truck to a "CTS" and see who notice it is not a CST.

For what it's worth, I think the 69 years only had the 4 wheel drive emblem. 70 up didn't have them. I like the rendetion of your new emblems for sure!

Instructions to adapt Ford Ranger LED cargo/Brake light to fit 1969 Chevy:

- Spend alot of time measuring, make sure all is center
- Cut very carefully

I selected this for its low profile design. i think the LMC cargo light is super ugly. Fits great, seals perfectly. No bondo required if you place it right.

Standard rocker replacement. Rust was extremely bad towards the front. I opted not to replace the cab floor, and just go ahead with the rocker. This is a fun truck, not a show piece.

Doors cleaned up and primed.

How many speakers were mounted in this door throughout its life??? the other side is twice as bad, like someone tried to cut the round opening larger with a pair of dikes. Also, i found some other sheetmetal on the truck that looked like someone had attempted to use a wire feed welder as a cutter. Like they just turned up the heat... amazing...

Painted out the doors. This one was a nightmare. Ran out of color coat at about 70% coverage, it was a sunday, so no chance of getting to the supplier for more. Then i fell way behind schedule, i had to get home that night, so i bolted the doors back on the truck, not fully painted and not fully cured.

THEN, had to scuff the entire surface area of paint in order to re-coat. ****ty chinese paint gun broke/clogged, had to paint the whole thing with about a 1" diameter pattern, took way too long and ended up painting in the dark.

Solution: have all of your materials handy, set up a permanant place to spray, take your time.. NO chinese tools.
