AC blower motor wheel project - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have been thinking about doing this for awhile. I wanted to see if could get the AC to blow hard like a late model. After some research I found a late model blower wheel that was the right size. I had to buy blower motor with the wheel just to get the wheel. I got it on ebay for $33.00 it is for a 07-11 jeep liberty. The wheel has 41 fins on it and my 72 AC wheel has 29 fins. The fins on the newer one are also much larger. This took me a few hours to put together. The new wheel would require a much longer shaft that my motor has so I cut the center out and I clipped and cleaned up an old chevy blower wheel and epoxied and rivet them together. The fit was so good they self centered themselves. I had to open up the blower housing hole about a 32d all the way around to get the wheel in. Also took some side cutters and clipped the top of the fins at an angle for clearance. This runs smooth and quiet and blows hard. I think on medium it blows about what it used to on high.

I looked through your driver build rsgt. Your a resourceful guy. My truck originally was the same colors and I wish the PO would have repainted it those colors. It just looks good on these trucks. Especially with the rally rims. Good job.

That looks like it's pretty strong. I wonder if it would work on a 64 SS Impala as well.

Andy, It might work, The wheel is 2 3/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches.

Here are a couple more pictures. I put a heavy weight on the wheel when I glued them together, Then when it was cured I put the rivets in. I put a weather strip seal around the edge of the motor plate before I put it back on the truck.

Andy, What you have to watch for is depending on the car, The wheels come in clockwise and counterclockwise.

Thanks, the truck does pretty good as is but my 64 SS on high is like slow speed in my 71 C 10.

Can't speak for trucks but the hot tip for C3 (68-82) Corvette blower motors was to use C4 (84-96) Corvette blower motors and add a 3/4" spacer. Not sure if they had more blades but they were at a different pitch and the cage was longer. It supposedly worked well although I never did one.
