Re: High zinc oils

Exact same thing here. My brother uses Amsoil signature 20w-50 in his 1970 C10 350 with 100k+ miles on original build and noticed on the bottle it says includes zinc.

Re: High zinc oils

I just changed mine for the first time since I have owned it. 283 Canister type
Used Penn Grade, formerly called Brad Penn after Bradford Pa. The old Kendall GT plant...Has plenty of zinc. I used 10w 30... I have used it in my 67 427
Sting Ray 20w 50 mix. So far so good !

Joe Gibbs (Driven) oil and Torco Oil. I really like the Joe Gibbs. I run the 20w-50 in my 454.

Re: High zinc oils

I run Pennzoil and a bottle of Lucas Zinc additive, if I need to top it off before scheduled oil/filter change I add Lucas Oil Stabilizer.

Re: High zinc oils

When it comes down to high zinc motor oil. Read the data sheets from the motor oil and pick one with a decent zinc content that also has the best price for you and dont look back. All this advertising has made people believe the oil in a bottle of valvoline VR1 is so much different than the oil in the bottle of brad penn it will make or break your engine. Simply not true.

Also, 540 Rats oil testing methods have been questioned and debunked for years now and do not relate at all to the actual conditions of an operating engine, take those tests with a grain of salt and move on.

Re: High zinc oils

Castrol 20/50 and STP oil treatment . This is all I've ever used and never had an oil related failure in a first gen small block or L6. About $30.00 for an oil/filter change
