Cool Stuff.
I was walking my dog when I saw the hood open on a neighbors car. I have helped him in the past because he is not a big mechanic. His neighbor was helping him out and I noticed he had an old time Dwell Meter hooked up to the car and I commented on how you sure can't buy those anymore and I would love to have one. He looked at me and said "It's yours". After we were done he put it back into his tool box and I thought oh well. Then he picks it up and hands it to me. "Here you go and I am glad someone can use it", so I said thank you but there was more then just the meter in there. Also included an inductive timing light and a period spot light you plug in the cigarette lighter.
I want to hook it up to my truck and check my dwell just because I can.

Re: Cool Stuff.
Nice. I got mine the same way. Got my 71 Pontiac in 1989, neighbour gave me his old dwell tach and timing gun. Still have them, still use them every time.

Re: Cool Stuff.
Pretty sure you can still buy a dwell/tach from Summit. Bought one a few years ago from them, great if you still run points. Ive had a few Pertronixs kits die, but never had to walk home because of points.
Congratulations on the tool score!

Re: Cool Stuff.
I work on classic motorcycles for a living and use my dwell meter all the time on old Hondas and Brit bikes. It's really amazing how you can set the gap exactly, hook up the dwell meter and find out you're way off. Set the dwell, then set the timing on both sets of points. The difference between a bike that runs good and a bike that runs perfect.
These are a few of my past and current work projects, the Bonneville was my personal ride until my nephew laid it down and it slid under a guardrail. Managed to do some serious offroading with it after the accident but before insurance picked it up |

Re: Cool Stuff.
Nice work, nice bikes! Obsolete does not mean useless. It just means something new came along that most people moved on to. I have some of that old test equipt. including an oscilloscope. I think it is a Sun. People will give that stuff away these days. There are collectors, but I don't think there's any money in it...at this point in time.

Re: Cool Stuff.
I still have one in my toolbox..I always liked the old chevy points distributor that had the little pull-up window so you could set the dwell while the engine was running....good old days...!

Re: Cool Stuff.
Congratulations on acquiring those items. The set looks barely used. My dad still has some of that old gear hidden in his toolbox, but will not give it to me. Back in the day, I used that gear to cut my teeth on tuning GM engines (Mostly Buick) and got really good at fixing mom and dads cars.

Re: Cool Stuff.
Nice score.... good to have appreciative neighbors like that! The timing light looks exactly like my old Sun inductive light.
