1962 straight 6 not running issues

Hey guys, I'm not only new to old trucks, I'm also new to turning a wrench. My 62 Straight 6 was running fine until I installed a new stereo, carpet and seat. I can't believe I messed anything up but it now it barely runs at all. It starts on full choke but runs very rough. It won't run at all when I push the choke in unless I stay on the gas. When I get rolling is won't go over five mph and continues to stall.

(was told to check the fuel filter element on the fuel line going into the carb but mine doesn't have one. I also have a newer fuel tank and hardware with a new in-line fuel filter)

Need Help Please... Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like the carb has trash in it. Pull the inline filter and see if it has stuff in it.

Ignition problem? Condenser? What does the spark look like? What wiring changes did you do?

I tried that first and the inlet looks clear. I also sprayed inside the carb with cleaner and checked the inline fuel filter.

I didn't do any wiring changes. I never changed anything electrical and the photos show how I bought the vehicle and again, it was running fine and overnight is just started having issues.

when my 292 goes from running good, to not so good, the first thing i check is the points.
usually cleaning or adjustment restores smoothness.

The thing that makes me think it's carb related is that it has to have full choke to even start and then staying on the gas for it to run. Can you pull the float bowl, or did you already do that?

Re: 1962 straight 6 running issues

I agree with it being a fuel/carb related issue. Sometimes a good whack with a screwdriver handle or a wrench is all it needs. Might have a stuck float or junk. Give it a shot...

I actually would have tried that first but there's not one.

Sorry, thought you meant the inline glass bowl which it doesn't have. I assume you mean inside the carb... (as I stated, I'm no mechanic, yet)
