mine have been in my truck for almost a month and they work great better than the aftermaket kits that turn the hand crank shaft to raise and lower the window and it is closer to what stock would be

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

Does it matter what year the motor comes from? I see a bunch of different part numbers but they all look very similar. I know there are different numbers of teeth, looks like we need 9 tooth motors.

bonnieclyde100 what type of switches did you use? I see colgad posted that a reversing switch is needed. I was planning on using the chrome gm style switches.

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

I went to the wrecking yard and found a 70 GMC I was going to get a set of window regulators but they wanted $50 each. so I ordered some goodmark repops at $26 to try. figured what the hell its just $52 and I dont have to take my truck apart until its time to install the power set up!

Question is $50 each expensive for regulators at a wrecking yard???

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

Bringin' it back to the top for a heads up.

While looking a drawings in the service manual (pondering the rear window regulators in my Suburban) I just realized I welded my motor bracket and gear 180º in the wrong direction.

Don't use the pics in post #35 as a guide.

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

I'm going to work with my Dodge Dakota regulator/motor combos- I've got a set of F-body convertible regulator/motor units, too. Winter is coming and I'll have plenty of time to 'experiment'. The window crank/switch idea is also in the plans- that should be pretty easy, compared to gabbing in the regulators.

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

Nice work.

The switches, wiring and relay from a 77-87 Square body truck would be easy to install for a correct look.

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

I just got these switches off EBAY,best deal Iv could find http://www.ebay.com/itm/TWO-UNIVERSA...81255183341%26
I havent got them installed yet making a bezel took a little time, they feel and look like real good quality pieces, also just ordered a pair of these http://www.jegs.com/i/Electric+Life/...0-099/10002/-1 ,so my wires dont get pinched going from the door to the cab.
Does anyone have photos where they drilled and ran there wires to transition from the doors into the cab??? thanks jim

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

jimcaf, did you leave your motor plate the way it is in your pic, or did you have to trim it for clearance? The OP has a specific shape to his motor plate, I was going to just use a rectangular plate, unless there will be clearance issues.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,,,I did just leave it in a rectangular shape and had no issues, the only clearance issue I had that came close was a guide I fabricated to keep the big gear on the regulator in better alignment (not completely necessary) and that is not really a problem its just touching the side of the window guide on the vent assembly.

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

Thanks for the pic, I just wanted to see if you had to clearance the plate for the motor. I don't have my motors yet, but I thought I could go ahead and make the plates ahead of time. I think the motors all have the same bolt pattern and placement of the gear. I like the guide idea too. Thanks again for taking the time to post the pics.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: power window regulators on the cheap

Mark ,,you might want to make the plates and drill out the big hole and wait welding and on the last 3 till you could hold the motor in place and line up the gears..

Jim, that was my intention. I don't have my motors yet so I can't drill the mounting holes.
What did you cut the big round hole with, a hole saw?
