Moving trailing arm mount

On 67-72 Since the wheels aren't exactly in the middle of the rear wheel well has anyone thought about moving the trailing arms and mount back to center it? I will be replacing my trailing arm mount with one where you can adjust your pinion angle. Just wondering if it would cause any issues moving it back approximately an inch.. Thanks!

Re: Moving trailing arm mount

No issues moving it where needed if everything is square. Another option is using spacers between the mount & x-member (for those not removing the x-member).

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Thank you! I didn't figure it would be an issue.

Re: Moving trailing arm mount

I'm not an expert on these trucks by any means as I've only owned my 67 lwb for 6 months and haven't gotten into it yet but I have a couple concerns. Namely driveshaft and panhard bar. Panhard bar mount can be moved easily enough if there's any binding after moving the trailing arm crossmember. The yoke going into the trans is meant to have some wiggle room both for and aft. If you only move an inch you'll probably still get enough spline engagement but it will no longer be in the sweet spot.

What you're not considering is that once you lower a vehicle beyond a certain point, it can alter the wheelbase. Tweaking the front T/A mount is just re-centering the wheels (which put all those points mentioned back where they 'should' be).... just a little lower.

Typically, moving the T/A mount location isn't needed for mild drops out back (up to 6"). Once it gets beyond that point, it's subjective so it only bothers some.

The front is the same. Beyond about 4" of drop & the wheel centerline shifts back. Again, it's subjective. Some don't notice or care. Others will get aftermarket a-arms or modify their suspension to re-center the wheels.

The front isn't screaming look at me yet, the rear is bad enough to have my attention. I'll be doing an engine/trans swap so driveshaft was never a concern and an aftermarket panhard bar was definitely in its future anyway. Still weighing my options for suspension components and mods, currently bagged on completely stock suspension. Thanks for the tips!
