67-72s with 94 up Dodge front clips?

I must have missed something....... This is the 2nd one I've seen on the net the last 2 days. Was this a thing in the 90s or something? It kills the looks of our trucks IMO!

Not a dodge fan but somebody put in some work to do that. You have to admit the body lines flow pretty well

Lots of talent to make it work but if I wanted a dodge I’d buy a dodge.

Lol actually you have no clue how close to the truth that is. The original designer of our trucks left GM sometime in the late 60's, and went to Chrysler. In fact, if you look at concept models and art for these trucks, they look very similar to Dodge trucks for the 70-90's body. I noticed the similarity long before I found those facts. But I was an auto glass installer for 15 years, and after a while you notice stuff like that.

That's a GMC Stretch-Nose. You can tell by the cross of chrome in the grille.

Yeah, that "Dodge" grille design was stolen from the 67-72 GMC

Re: 67-72s with 94 up Dodge front clips?

I agree, who ever did this one did a great job. But I can't see why. Have you driven a 2nd gen dodge? I have. Worked on so many it makes me love parting them out. If you're going through all the work to modify something, why keep the front of it looking like a dodge still? Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

The "I want a classic truck, but I want a Cummins, NV5600, and Dana 80 on a budget worse" approach.

The weird thing is, this truck still has it's original frame. I figured the cab was set on a dodge frame too at first. It isn't though.

Re: 67-72s with 94 up Dodge front clips?

My DD is an '01 4x4 Cummins HO/NV5600

From what I can gather, the Chevrolet and Dodge fenders meld together near the rear part of the wheel arch.

I still can't figure out why someone would do it.

Re: 67-72s with 94 up Dodge front clips?

Although I don't particularly like it, somebody did some nice work and it's crazy how well it actually works together. I do find it odd to do this though. Usually it's the other way around (classic nose on a new cab). What about the 67-72 cab would make you want to do this if you're just going to slap a late model Dodge front clip on it?

Re: 67-72s with 94 up Dodge front clips?

Anyone read the description? It's an interesting read.

Couple highlights:

Quote:
Everything is done so as not to destroy the original bod, If wanted the stock Front end will bolt Right back
Quote:
So This is how its been since 1997
This thing was built over 20 years ago!

Whole thing for when the ad goes down:

Quote:
1972 Chevrolet Other Pickups MotorHome chassis Description
Note ( custom License Plates do not go with Vehicle) This is a Custom Built Vehicle . I bought this Motorhome in 1995 From a friend the original miles on truck at the time when i got it was around 52,000 origina, I just bought the cab and chassis with original MotorHome bod, less motor and trasn and interior. I drove this home and then pulled the motor and trans out and returned too my Frien, Since Being a MotorHome the Interior was like ne, my friend kept all tha, My plan was too restore this too origina, so i found a company who i thought was willing to build me a new up to date motor with new upgrades Like Fiberglass sideing and newer upgrades on interior .So I dismantled the old body and thru away the old wood Motorhome . and then pulled the cab and restored the complete Chassi, This chassis Has the 14k GVW chassi, Had new leafsprings made for the rear from Factory Spec, From Betts Spring . Rebuilt the Rearend with all new Bearings Seals Brake Shoes wheel cylinders and hardware and Brake Lines . Reinforced The rear frame Rails with C channel so i could put a Trailer Hitch receiver o, for towin, ( no hitch yet) Then Rebuilt complete front suspensio, Ball joints upper and lower Shafts shock, Tie rod ends and Idler . then Painted complete Frame with POR-15.
Body cab was then Sandblasted too bare meta, ( rust free cab due too the Camper Body Being over the Cab , Then I decided too Customize the Front end By Installing a 1997 Dodge Ram Fenders Hood Grill Bumpers Core Suppor, Made it easier for Installing the 1983 6.2 DSL Engine with The 700 R Overdrive Transmissio, Also If i ever decided too Install a 5.9 Cummins Diesel it would Except all the parts a lot bette, ( like the radiator and Inetrcooler and Batterys ) As it worked out had too extend the Hood so it Hides the Wipers . Also Installed Hydro-vac Brakes Everything is done so as not to destroy the original bod, If wanted the stock Front end will bolt Right back o, There was only two modifications made too the Cab too Clear the new Hood Hinge, ( so removed one bolt hole Location that bolts the original cowl on which is still on Vehicl, slightly modifie, but is a bolt on part.,Has still has All the Factory Original AC,which was restored too light new condition with new Heater core and . Also has new center vent and ac ball, ( Parts not shown or installed on Interior are the heater controls AC ducting Glove box Dash Bezel ) No Radio. Will include New Repo Door Handles and Door Lock Set. Two Factory Bucket Seats Need new Upholstery, Cab originally Came with Bucket, No Console Because it has pass Thru in back of Cab too Access MotorHome . Have Glove Bo, is painted .
So This Body and parts were all Painted with PPG Deltron Basecoat Clearcoat separately and then assembled . I had palnned too put one more Final Coat on Whole Body But never di, I Put it all together as is too drive it too the Company who Was Going Too Build my new Camper Bod, But when I contacted them Tghey Said they were not Interested in Doing it . So This is how its been since 1997 . I have never waxed thi, because i had planned on Painted one more Coat on it . It needs just finishing up some small details on insid, But it Drives and function, I did put it on the road in 1997 and maybe put about 30 miles on it . It has been covered or under a Canopy Tent most of its Life. , Has always been run or driven for all these years in my yard every two months . At least Started . The Driveshaft is all Brand new custom mad, new center bearing and u-joints . Also Installed The Factory Dual Fuel Tanks off of the 1983 Truck That donated the 6.2 DSL. . Put both saddle tanks on the Passenger side frame with easy acces, with dual Tank switch over Valve...Has the Propane tank mounted on the driver side frame rail were it was from the Factory. Has factory Cab light, when i Re did the Cab were they Cut open the Back for the Pass thr, it was kinda crude with wood .So i filled in the window panel with metal and framed in the Opening with Metal rectangular tube .Vehicles comes with the Factory original 7.50 -16" Split rims and tires (6) also comes with 4 used 16" chrome rims as seen on front.

Whether there is a lot of time and talent in that build or not... When I build a rig... I want cats to see it and react, "Oh cool... nice rig!" I definitely don't want the first impression to be "WTF were they thinking?". Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

This got me thinking.

I have an 07 Ram Cummins six speed that is about to age out. That might be a good donor for one of my projects.

Have you seen that done Diesel Wrencher?

Larry, yes sir. That would make a great combo for an old Chevy. It must be pretty rough if it's getting ready to age out?

Yep, the drive line is still good, but a pipeline crew has had it since day one, and they have beat it all to hell. I has well over 300,000 miles on it.

Age probably isn't the right term. Torn up might be.
