Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Thank goodness. I've been waiting for this thread to come back to the top. I've searched for it and never could find it again.

I'm very tempted to do a three row bucket-bucket-bench in my suburban similar to how the newer ones are equipped.

Bigdav160 , I can appreciate those who install late model seats for the ease and cost but I have been building trucks and muscle cars for customers for over 35 years and just have to push the envelope on my own (finally) personal project trucks .And to customize original parts and re use them keeps the truck some what time period correct , Just my choice .everything I'm changing could have been done back in '67 it just wasn't attempted then these were still work trucks ! . also I have a few sets of "factory buckets" I will be offering soon to anyone who wants them built with custom upholstery if I can see a desire for them .

It sounds like we're nearly the same age! My plan is not for new style seats, nor to make it period correct. I want to build something that could have been done but wasn't.

My wife has a small sewing/embroidery business. I guess I'll teach myself to sew as she would rather do furniture cushions, drapes, and logos on hats, shirts and towels.

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Perfect timing. I just removed and stripped the three bench seats from my Suburban. I also installed Blazer front buckets and console.

Now I'm ready to make the captain chairs for the middle row.

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Here's my prototype frame for the middle seat on my Suburban. It fits pretty well. I think it's time to weld it up and start the other one.

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Looks like you got it ! Not as hard as it may look and you end up with "factory buckets" or in this case second row buckets .

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

heres something to think about for the guys not wanting to sacrifice the "honey" bench seat. how about modifying a bench to be a 60/40 split bench. think its possible? you would have to change the adjusters though im sure

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Well... I've gone to the extreme on these seats using all real leather and Ostrich leather for the inserts and accents also a rawhide laced edge similar to the Audi TT seats posted in the beginning of this thread . The design is based on a horse saddle look and is very labor intensive . These seats are going in my 67 restomod and that truck will be the last truck I will ever build to this level . I'll post pictures once the completed interior is installed , the plan is to take that truck to the 2017 power tour . The newest addition is a bed cover with a 12 volt actuated rear air spoiler made from aircraft honey comb composite for strength and low weight . The power rear window works perfect .I'm seriously considering a No limit frame , The budget has been blown out the window .
