seriously just bought a body bushing kit $139 no bolts but has washers . 9/16 and 1/2 bolts in grade 8 easy to find but not 3/8. all I can seem to find is grade 2 . seems a little weak. would like to get at least find grade 5 . I hate it when I get in a wreck and the body goes one way and the frame another

In truth, I really don't know what grade they are in the kits nor what grade they were from the factory.

I had bookmarked this thread knowing the day was coming to replace the mounts. I used this today to buy all the bolts I needed. I go to a farm supply place because they have a good price for all the bulk nuts and bolts and they have all the carriage bolts to pick from. I got enough to do 2 blazers for about $16.00.

OK. I'll bump this and add a question...

My bolts are welded to the floor. Whats the best method to cut these loose without destroying the floor?

I was thinking dremel... but that means I have to borrow or buy one....

I just used an angle grinder with a thin cutting wheel on it. Cut through the side of the carriage bolt head where the weld is. Popped the bolt loose, then cleaned up the floor with a die grinder. If the floor gets bent up a little when tapping the bolt out, just pound it back down with a hammer. If you don't have a die grinder, they are one of the cheapest air tools to get and come in handy. Same with the angle grinder.

Ok... I have a die grinder but I didn't have any cut off wheels... I picked up some 3" wheels and a shaft/aug ... The problem I'm having is even the small 3" wheel doesn't fit into the recess for the two bolts in the driver and passenger footwells.... I ended up drilling out the others and using a punch. I will probably go the same route with the last two... but they are a larger diameter...

I have used my dremel tool with a cutoff wheel or grinder bit with excellent results. It's slower but being able to get into the hard to reach areas without causing damage to surrounding areas is priceless.

The front floor mount bolts were not welded in mine. Just the bed floor bolts. I think the dremel would be the best bet, or a die grinder with a pointed bit. Or just put the impact wrench on and break 'em loose.

FYI, On my kit for poly mounts, they assumed the front mount bolts were 1/2" but they are actually 9/16" and I had to use different washers than were included in the kit.

I've had really good results using 2" RoLoc pads on the 90 degree air tool.


Takes a little longer but you don't end up with the slices in the tub that you do with a cutting wheel/grinder approach.

I am in the middle of changing all of the body mounts on my Jimmy, thanks to the is thread, I was able to do all of the ones on the drivers side with the exception of the first position one (under the gas pedal). I got it removed relatively easy but the problem is when I put the new one in and try and put the bolt in there is an alignment issue. Does anybody have any suggestions?

When I changed mine a few years back, I did one side at a time and lifted body just enough to get the body bushing in and went quite well. I did not tighten any of the mounts on that side untill all bolts were in. Do you have a metal drift or log awl to push up through and help aline the bushing? maybe start from the front and work to the back.

Hey guys. Im restoring my 72 blazer 2WD. The body mounts available all say they are for a 4WD! are people buying these for there 2WD trucks? If so, how do they work out for ya??

I bought mine from Early Classic years ago, but they had the same part numbers as the LMC catalog, and worked just fine for me. They looked just like the stock ones that came out, but they weren't compressed and deteriorated.

Looking at the LMC catalog, they only list one set for each body mount position regardless of whether it is 4x4 or 2wd. It looks like the only difference is in the radiator support lower cushions and only for 71-72, probably has something to do with the fact that the front leaf spring mounts right under the cushion, but I'm not sure why 71-72 is different from 69-70. But they do offer the complete kit for a 2wd there.

Sounds like you have a 72 frame with a 69-71 body. The 72 bodies have a notch for the frame horns to clear.

That would explain it. The frame is a 1972 2wd and I have no idea what year the tub is. Would anyone have a picture of this notch. Otherwise I will probably just trim it out until the mounts touch properly. Thanks!!

Assuming all went well, how long shouldnit take to do all the mounts on a 72 K5? I got a smokin’ deal (Energy Suspension kit for $26 on Amazon) but no bolts. Also, are poly’s really a different thickness than rubber? If so, what bolts do a poly kit need? Thanks all!
