Oddball 67

I snapped a couple pics of this oddball 67 at the Nats last weekend. Come to find out the guy built this from a 2016 Chevy truck. He grafted the front clip, hood, door skins and used a 67 bed. The workmanship is outstanding and had me fooled till I saw the windshield. Wish I had taken more pics. Chevy should build this truck, it looks a lot better than the "19 models.

Re: Oddball 67

That's really cool. That takes some real talent, patience, and money. Other than the roof and mirrors you can't tell from the outside. The front plastic valance needs to go though.

If GM built these, it would be hard to resist buying one. If I were independently wealthy and didn't have to work, I would take on a project like this.

Re: Oddball 67

I took a photo of that exact same truck at the annual show on Petit Jean mountain in Arkansas this years Father's Day weekend.

The giveaway for me as well was the rake of the windshield. I had to go look as the grafting work was excellent in that they even used the old style door handles. The way they carried the slim rocker profile into the bed to the rear tire was a very nice touch in my opinion.

Really reminded me of the first "new" Challenger I saw. Close enough to the original to make you do a double take and then you start seeing the modern flair on the old style.

GM would not be able to produce enough of a new sport truck based on a 1967-72 style body. Classic cool with all the modern power and conveniences would make too much sense.

Re: Oddball 67

I wish I could see it in person. It looks like he copied the body line at the lower front of the bed off the '16, but with the 67 bedsides. I like the stance too.

People would start buying them instead of building them, that would make parts cheaper!

Re: Oddball 67

If people could go out and buy a new 67-72 style GM truck they'd be all over the place and they wouldn't be so special. You'd have the "detailer" crowd showing up with them at the cruise-ins and shows. I like seeing such vehicles left up to the owner to build. Looks like a great job done on that. What makes it cool is it's one man's creation, not cookie cutter.

You have to admit the work looks incredible! One critique is that the white cab portion is painted like a 68-72, instead of 1967 style.

It looks better than anything GM has had at a dealership in the last decade or so.

I'd love to see "in progress" photos show just what it was he did along the way. Looks like some tedious skills used.

X2, I would love to see how it was done! Pretty sharp truck though.

Nice truck.
Title is labeled rebuilt. While technically thats true you could also wonder if he started with a totaled 2016 silverado.

Makes sense to start with a totaled truck. Why cut up a good truck? Why take off good panels? Plus resale value is an unknown with nothing to compare it to so you want the lowest investment possible. I’m surprised at times how little damage it takes to total some vehicles so it may not have been that bad. I’m sure there are “before” pics that should be checked out, proof it was on a frame machine and other due diligence a buyer should do.

The ad says they bought new body panels to graft onto the 2016. This means the 2016 body was modified to resemble a 1967, not replaced with a 1967 body. In the mind of the state this usually isn’t reason enough to change the year or the vin. The builder could’ve done this to a Ford and they still wouldn’t change the vin or title info.

Re: Oddball 67

I dug a little deeper and found a small article that only showed a few pictures. It did link to a Facebook group where he posted the 2016 truck used for the build it was not a totaled truck. I was also looking for a build thread to see how it was done and did not find anything.

You know, I've been thinking about this truck. If I had the $$ to strike a deal with the owner I'm almost certain I would buy that truck. And much to the dismay of many I'd drive the stinking wheels off it.
