Thumbs up 2 piece drive shaft with TH350: yoke question

Installed a TH350 trans into my '63 LWB Fleetside, and want to keep the 2 piece drive shaft. With the carrier bearing installed on the drive shaft, it looks to me like you would need a 2 piece (ubolt/strap style) yoke at the tranny end to be able to remove the drive shaft.

Am I looking at this right ? If so, the only 2 piece 27 spline yokes I see are 1310 series ujoints and the stock drive shaft is 1350 series at the front. I guess you could use a 1310/1350 combo ujoint.

Anyone done this ?

Re: 2 piece drive shaft with TH350: yoke question

When you pull the shaft just pull it just like you do now. Pull the entire shaft. No need for a special yoke.

The back piece will drop as normal, but once you put a slip yoke on the front piece to the tranny, there will not be room to slide it back: the carrier bearing (see below) will not pass through the cross member and allow room to slide back and drop off.
Maybe I'm not explaining this well, but thanks anyway

I under stand what you are saying. been awhile sense I've had a 2-piece d/s. I take it you removed a tk 4/sp right? Corvette used one of these yokes in the 60's. A bit pricey and you would need the combo u-joint.

Re: 2 piece drive shaft with TH350: yoke question

I have the same bearing in my truck. I just straightened up the little tabs on the bottom plate and I slip the clamp off. Goes in and out just fine.

This.....you simply remove the metal mount from the rubber and then it will pass thru the trailing arm crossmember.

Yeah, that was the only 2 piece yoke I found, too. Thanks

Thumbs up Re: 2 piece drive shaft with TH350: yoke question

Thanks, guys ! Guess I need to have my eyes re-calibrated as I sure thought that would not fit through the cross member ! Once the metal is off, it's almost like they made it to fit through there.

That's why this forum is so valuable ! Thanks again !
