Muchos Gracias....

OK.....started looking it over to really see where Im at. Looking pretty good as far as I can see. Made a list and started knocking things off....one thing that I didnt do a long time ago is now done. Filled the notches for the tailgate hardware. Next are those spotweld holes across the back; and sanding and sanding and sanding.

Basically you delete the handle, and use a solenoid to pull open the mechanism. The solenoid is activated by remote and then a spring in the lower corner of the door pushes the door open when the mechanism retracts. I also added switches to the set-up so I dont need the remote. If you look at the interior pic on the passenger side, next to the glove box is a small chrome button. This activates the solenoid to get out of the truck. Many places sell kits to do this and I will be upgrading mine in the future....stronger solenoids. Its a pain in the a$$ when you have your battery out or disconnected.

Re: Protrash Re-hash

I originally built a metal tonneau cover that was simply too heavy and unworkable. Those were the supports. My buddy made a welding table out of it (kyle4381). Found a pic...I finally got pics off the thumbdrive from the X.

Re: Protrash Re-hash

Ok....heres an update. (Yes Joe, there are pics.) Ive been sanding and sanding and sanding and getting the trucks into better shape. I have a lot more experience doing bodywork and its getting easier as I go. It still takes me a long time.

My bed was a wrecked '66 trailer. I got rid of the wrecked parts and added a '62 bedside on the drivers side. I did not start out with premium parts. Its interesting to see the differences in the two sides. For instance, in '62 they bolted the chain hardware on and by'66 they spot welded it. It looks like they improved the stamping and tried to cut out waste metal as the folds have less excess by '66. Could just be variance in production for all I know.

Anyway, heres the pics of progress......from the sides ripped down into the original bodywork and built up again to be straighter. I purchased a 24'' Durablock and use adhesive backed paper. This block improved my skills as it covers such a wide area it does not allow me to dig in and make a 'ditch'. I have then coated stuff with SEM self etch where I hit some metal and SEM high build in other areas. All of this will be coated with Extreme 2K primer eventually. Ok, enjoy.....

Thanx guys.......yeah Jason, they are gone. I have push buttons installed on the dash corners to pop the door from the inside. I need to re-do the system to work better, but thats in the future. Im concentrating on the bed right now so I can call it 're-hashed'.

I figure the doors will be a section of the project as I have new weather stripping and Electric-Life power windows to install. I also found some damage that I will need to fix on the drivers door.

This wasnt really exciting or anything, but damn its a lot of work!! I just need to clean up the tailgate and the inside of the bed and then I get to spray my primer....or re-prime, I guess.
