In the Caprice, the LT1 was only used with the electronically controlled version of this transmission, called a 4L60E. The older TBI engine was used with the 700R4. The electronic trans will have a large, green electrical connector on the passenger side while the older version will have a connection for a cable. It's possible I'm confused about what vehicle the trans came out of then because he is 100% sure it's cable and not power but I'll verify when I pick it up. Thank you for the info!
