98 chevy k1500 missing
hello everbody im having a little problem with my truck. i cranks and runs fine but when i start to pull from stop it has alittle miss then quits till it goes into overdrive then it will miss when i just crack throttle easing up a hill or slite grade. it is magnified even more when i pull a trailer. i have replace iac valve, throttle position sensor, both temp sensors, done a complete tune up. ihad problem with leaking head gasket. so i pulled it down put new gasket seated valves and new seals, while it was down i installed anew fuel pump. all filters are replaced at oil changes every 3000 miles. i have checked for vacuum leaks but havent found any. checked air intake hose for leaks. miss doesnt start untill engine is at operating temp. any help with this is greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: 98 chevy k1500 missing
from the Heart of Arkansas!
I had a "miss" on my '96. Once, it set a code that said it was No. 4 misfiring. So, did a plug swap. Bought a new fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor. The problem was that there was a build-up of crap on the fine wire in the MAF sensor. Take some alcohol and dip a Q-Tip in it, then wipe the wire until it is clean. Problem was solved.

Re: 98 chevy k1500 missing
i checked maf sensor and cleaned it with carb. cleaner. it was also time for oil change so i done that and changed fuel filter. while i was working on truck i tried to find a vacuum leak none found. when i checked the fuel tank purge solenoid valves i was not holding vacuum like i thought it should soo i plugged the line going to the solenoid closest to manifold and miss went away and so far hasnt come back. i did get a code to come up about tank purge i then moved plug out to canister to see if valves are bad or vacuum lines are problem. so far its run good for 2 days.

Re: 98 chevy k1500 missing
does anyone know of an after market intake manifold for direct injection that will work with stock computer for 98 k1500 350 with 4 speed auto. mine is stock aluminum with plastic air box and has fuel spider inside. still having miss issues not quite as often but any miss is too much.

Re: 98 chevy k1500 missing
There is not a direct replacement intake that still uses the stock stuff. Have you checked your fuel pressure? It should be around 60 running and no lower than 58ish. Also, how many miles are on it? Once these engines start getting past the 150k mark, there can be enough wear on the dist gear that it can cause performance issues under light loads. Roller cams (like the stock one in the Vortec) are made of harder metals that will wear out dist gears. The stock dist gear is made special for the stock cam.

Re: 98 chevy k1500 missing
thanks for reply bwood, my truck has 154000 on fuel presure is in the high 50s range. i think if ther was slop in the distributor gear it would throw a code of somesort. i had a coolant leak at the intake and head, when i repaired it i pulled heads and replaced valve seal and seated valves. put all back together set dist. for top dead center, engined fired and ran code came up to adjust dist. moved it just a little bit and it cleared ran perfect after that. at that time i was replaceing fuel pump, iac, throttle sensor, for a miss or running rough and that fixed it then.
