i was thinking of putting headers on my 69(which has a stock 350)...but was wondering if there are problems with them fitting ok?....seems like i read on here somewhere that people were having trouble with the frame being in the way and heating up brake lines or something...any of you had these problems?...the reason im thinking of going to headers is because both of my manifolds have cracked around some of the bolts and i figured it would be easier and cheaper to buy headers instead of finding more manifolds....anybody evey bought the summit brand headers?....thanks for any replys

When my 69 Chevy (350cid and turbo 400) was a 2wd, I installed some Hooker Headers on it. I had no problem with clearance or the brake lines heating up. If your buying them new then I don't think that you should have a problem with the clearance. If your buying them used check the part number on the Header and then give your local performance shop a call and see if they match or will work.

I have used hooker super comps (which i love) and some crusty yard sale ones that were claimed to be either headman or black jacks...they both fit fine.

I have Hooker comps on the longhorn, & have also run Headmans....both worked fine. One thing to watch(if you have a stick) is that the headers you order are verified to fit......auto trans, there should not be any fit issues. good luck, crazyL

My Hooker's fit when I had the auto, and also fits now that I have a manual trans.

I have only one problem with my headers and that is removing the drivers side one, I have to loosen the motormount bolts and jack up the block (drivers side) about an inch or so to get my clutch linkage off (the part that spins between the frame & block) otherwise it won't come out which is somewhat of a drag. What kind of tranny do you have? Mines a M20, Doug

You should be O.K. then. I installed a set of "Honest George" (or was it "Honest Fred") header gaskets which I'm really happy with they are really thick compared to other companies . I also cut metal out of the flanges on the headers (inbetween the headpipes) to cut down on heat retension (man you would think I have a phobia about exhaust leaks) LOL!!! There is a fellow board member who highlighted an exellent header bolt locking type system available from Summit Racing (check their website) not long ago.

I had problems with mine.

Don't know what brand of headers they were. They were on the truck when I bought it.

But the right side was right up against the frame rubbing it..........and butted right against the brake lines.

Took them off and put ram horns back on. Have thought about looking into the shorty headers available.....
