Need an air compressor...

Something like this one http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...rtnumber=COAC5. I like the upright design for space saving. I don't need it, been getting by with a tiny compressor and a 5-gal. storage tank, but I want one . I don't want to spend a lot on one, and it will only be used occasionally, for airing up tires. Of course, air tools will probably follow, but still just be used occasionally - and I will not be painting. What do y'all think of it, or is it junk? Any suggestions?

Re: Need an air compressor...

For what little you're doing with it, it should be fine. Do you know who makes it?

Re: Need an air compressor...

that compressor isnt really capable of running most air tools.i doubt it would take 20 lug nuts for 4 wheels without needing to wait for it to catch up

Re: Need an air compressor...

if you have any plans in the future of using any air tools,,i'd suggest you look at the types of tools you'd be looking to have see how much air they need to run and size your compressor accordingly.. that compressor doesn't put out very much air

Re: Need an air compressor...

I agree with cdowns, take a look at some of the air tools you may want to use in the future. Take note of the specs, it will list the air requirements needed to run the tool effiently.

Re: Need an air compressor...

Many thanks for the input - looks like I need to do a bit more research, maybe look for something with a bit more capacity...

Re: Need an air compressor...

I'm using a 60 gal 7 hp compressor, and it will do most jobs OK.DOesn't like sanders though.
You'll use the compressor as much as it will let you.I'm addicted to my impacts, just too easy, and quick.
Make sure you get what you need,no sense in buying something you're gonna outgrow in a few months.

Re: Need an air compressor...

Funny you should ask, Tim. I had forgotten all about this thread...... and I'm still using my tiny compressor and carrying the little air tank out to air up the tires! Don't wanna rush these big decisions, y'know!!

Re: Need an air compressor...

I've become an expert at getting by with what is at hand. Amazing how long a thing can stay on your list and you still get by without it. I remember hearing the old guys saying things like "You don't need all that" or "Just a useless gimmick". I think I'm going down that road now BTW, I've had a 2-cyl stand-up compressor on my list since I've lived in this house. Never had the shop worthy of one. I've used the same Emglo contractor compressor all these years, rented a hiway unit to sand blast, and find a place to paint.

Re: Need an air compressor...

I cant figure out how this got bumped. Did the one that bumped it up get deleted?

I have a big compressor in the shop that I have never even hooked up. Its big enough to do whatever Ill ever need it to.

I also have a 33 gallon 150 PSI vertical Craftsman on wheels that I use all the time. It mostly sits in the corner ready to go. I have a couple of hose reels I have never used (but ready to go anytime lol). I have a hose I wrap around the handle that will reach anywhere in my small shop. I like that I can just roll it out if I need it for something else somewhere around the house.
