replacement seat belts

Maybe this has been put out there already and I missed it in my search on old threads. Have a 1971 C-10 with original seat lap belts. They are half torn and don't work well.

Has anyone purchased new replacement belts for their truck? Have they worked perfectly? Have you had to massage them a bit to work? Are the replacements the same fit, form and function? Are the lengths correct?

I ask all these question because I don't want to get product that requires lots of mods and stuff. Have looked in the LMC catalog and they don't say "exact" replacement for length or fit.

I appreciate all help. Am going to look at a set of original black belts after work but want to have a back up source.....

Re: replacement seat belts

It's only recently that you can buy seat belts with the GM brand on them. Probably a liability thing, but now you can.

Before that your option was to re-web the belts. For a higher end restoration I had them remove the tags (the warning and date codes), peroxide them white again, then sew them into new re-webbed belts with my original ends and buckles.

For my current truck I am using 3-point belts, so unfortunately can't provide much info on the latest repro offerings.

Re: replacement seat belts

When you say "you had them" re-web the belts.....who is "them"? I know I sound ignorant but I can only assume that you found someone that will re-web the seat belts. Maybe an auto upholsterer???

Re: replacement seat belts

I bought replacement lap belts from brothers in black. The buckle seems to be the same quality as original. I am happy with them. I had the 3 point from them also, and they seemed lightweight to me so I swapped for the laps. If I find some 3 points I like I may put them in if I start driving the truck more.

These, I just looked them up: http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=GMBELT2

Re: replacement seat belts

"REAL" Upholstery shops won't touch seat belts because of the liability issues , But they will reweb a set of belts for your go cart and write that on your receipt and have you sign it ...seat belts are expensive due to the liability of the stiching failing in a crash, just buy these or similar .

"GM Stickers Sold Separately". Make sure they actually -have- them though.

Re: replacement seat belts

I'm not looking for a restoration project item. This is an old beater truck that is gonna be reliable and cool. If the original belts in the truck weren't frayed and cut now, I'd leave them. But as time (and sun) have taken their toll on the nylon belts (they're kinda stiff), they don't work well.

If I could find either a good conditioned set of used belts or a proper fitting new set of belts, I'd buy them. And yes....black is OK with me!! No need for blue, green or whatever other color they came in back then.

Re: replacement seat belts

The ones I got came with the GM stickers. I didn't have to purchase separately. But I think I had to stick them on. The belts were as heavy as the original and so were the buckles. Like I said very nice. One of the few reproduction parts that I've actually been happy with the quality!

Re: replacement seat belts

On line tube sells new tags with the tag information on them that you want. You have to call and ask about this service, as it is not on their web site yet. They sell new chrome buckles as well.

Seat belts Plus sell the correct webbing material in several different rows of weave and several colors. You buy the webbing by the yard and you can request color samples.

My 1968 Chevrolet took a four row weave in Flame Red color. I'm happy with both places on my purchases.

Re: replacement seat belts

Heck, if lap belts is all you want, why not buy a good set of used originals off the parts board? For 3 pt GM belts later model K5 belts work good and I think S10s do

These are the seat belts that I recently bought for my truck.
No issues so far and I enjoy them.
